Welcome Raquel to our new Board of Directors for the 2025-2027 term as the Director of Culture! Raquel Peña (@quellypea) is joining us from Austin TX, home base for WiV, and is an Event Producer / Tour Production Coordinator and DJ. We’re so excited to have her join the team.
•
Bio: Raquel Peña, known as Raquiqui [Rah-ki-ki], is a DJ and tastemaker with a decade of radio experience and 20+ years in entertainment and event production. A proud Tejana with deep West Texas roots, her mixes reflect her heritage, blending genres like Tejano, cumbia, soul, funk, and dance. Whether performing solo or with collectives like Chulita Vinyl Club (@chulitavinylclub), Queer Vinyl Collective (@queervinylco), or HOT Moon (@hotmoonvinyl), Raquiqui brings a dynamic, culture-rich approach to every set.
•
Fun Fact: During my senior year of high school, I led a double life as a radio DJ on an alt rock station.
My DJ handle was Va Va Victoria.
•
Record You Can’t Live Without: Car Wash, the film soundtrack. I grew up watching this movie with my parents who loved it so much, I can still quote it. The soundtrack was their favorite record. It’s a compilation of soul, funk and disco that’s a part of our Chicano culture.
•
Why is WiV Important: “While touring, I met so many incredible women thrilled to see us on stage DJing vinyl. Many shared they’d felt intimidated by men in record shops or overwhelmed by the idea of starting their vinyl journey. They said seeing us represented and connecting with us made them feel more welcome in the vinyl community.
Experiences like these are exactly why WiV is so important to me— it’s about breaking down barriers, creating space, and making the vinyl world feel accessible and inclusive for everyone.”

At the beginning of the year, I joined @womeninvinyl inaugural mentorship cohort. I had the great honor of being paired with badass @quellypea . We met routinely for the past six months covering topics like imposter syndrome, accountability, press kits, etc.

It was such a breathe of fresh air to just talk with another woman on the woes of spinning and also hyping each other up for our next big thing.

During our mentorship time together, I was able to accomplish some sweet and sometimes boring to others milestones like

* Building out a press kit
* Editing my website
* Making cute stickers
* Learning how to pitch myself and connect with others in the industry
* Talking through taxes, LLCs, DBAs

Thank you @quellypea for being a kickass mentor and always showing up with curiosity, reminding me to dream big and hyping me up to everything I share. Thank you @womeninvinyl for building out this program and investing in women in music. I look forward to staying connected and growing with @womeninvinyl - I’m excited for the growth this mentorship has gifted me in this next chapter 🧡 by @quellypea
