Spontaneous pull on this June night๐ŸŒš

Questions that emerge from these cards:

โ€ข What have you been quietly accumulating and resourcing for yourself over a long time?
โ€ข What abundance are you surrounded with?
โ€ข How can you begin to tap on what you have accumulated to build something new and actualise its potential?
โ€ข How can you harness the present moment and its momentum and opportunities available?
โ€ข How can you use the resources, talents and skills at your disposal to be the Magician and master of your world?

A wobble reading as we enter Gemini season

In this spread, I pull the Tower and the King of Wands as the first two cards โ€” these speak to the energies and tensions at play right now. The Tower card is governed by Mars, the fiery planet of action, aggression, passion, drive. It suggests that the systems, paradigms, relationships, ideas, beliefs, habits, and situations that are weak, outdated, or built on unstable foundations may begin to crack and crumble spectacularly. What was once safe may no longer hold; what once worked may no longer sustain us. It could also point to unexpected events, crisis, upheavals.

As we enter peak fire season (according to Chinese astrology), there is a sense that whatever needs to be destroyed or cleared away will do so with greater intensity and speed. Total collapse can mean total clearing. It paves the way for reconstruction โ€” for building from a cleaner, more honest slate. And as we transition from spring into summer, there is also the possibility of renewal and new beginnings.

At the other end sits the King of Wands, which, incidentally, is a โ€œfire-fireโ€ card (both the king court cards and the suit of wands correspond to the element of fire). While fire, as seen in the Tower, can be uncompromising, all-consuming, and destructive, the King of Wands represents fire that has been alchemised into something purposeful, creative, bold, and visionary. With strength, maturity, confidence, and foresight, he can turn ideas into reality. He is his own ruler.

How, then, can we begin to move from the chaos of an individual or collective Tower moment toward the King of Wands?

Starting with a 3-card โ€œwobble readingโ€, a technique devised by Esther Tishman, a seasoned tarot practitioner and teacher whom I have been learning from.

The โ€œwobbleโ€, in her words, refer to the tensions, the forces, the situation at play in our lives right now. It is represented by two cards, that, in my understanding, โ€œbracketโ€ or define the scenario at play. A third card (the centre card) is pulled to provide guidance as to how we can navigate the โ€œwobbleโ€, in hopes of finding our ground, and anchoring ourselves within that instability or tension.

In this draw, I pull the Ace of Cups and Justice cards as the first two cards, and the Two of Wands as the middle card. What strikes me immediately is the fact that the 2 of Wands mirrors its position in the 3-card spread. The man standing in the card is flanked by two wands, and in the spread, the card is flanked by two cards. It could be that he is in the middle of something in his life, and when we pull out, his life is also in the middle of something larger at play. The man has a plan; the world is in the palm of his hand, he is confident in his stature and looking into the distance. He has a place he wants to go, literal or metaphorical, and he is motivated to get there.

Ok, letโ€™s go back to the starting pointโ€”the โ€œwobbleโ€: the two cards. Here the Ace of Cups is overflowing with emotion, joy, and deep fulfilment. It indicates starting something that is emotionally fulfilling or being offered something that will fulfil you meaningfully. The water flowing out of the cup feels inexhaustible. Except, we know nothing is; nothing can pour from an empty cup. The other card, Justice, feels like the opposite of the free-flowing water. The man on the throne has one hand holding a sword and one holding a scale. He is poised, serious, rigid and seems to be driven by righteousness. The sword symbolises the mindโ€”it symbolises logic, rationality, careful consideration and incisive thought. The scale, represents balance, fairness, harmony. Perhaps itโ€™s telling us to balance the overflowing and abundant water with grounded and balanced thought.
