Part 4: Queenette – Redemption 🏃‍♀️
She went back.
A year after collapsing one mile from the finish. A year after waking up on the pavement with her medal dreams shattered. A year of carrying that moment in her chest like a wound that wouldn’t heal.

Queenette returned to the Lagos City Marathon. This time, she didn’t run alone. She carried the faith of every friend who believed in her. Every person who said “you can do this” when her own mind doubted. Every voice that reminded her who she was not what happened to her. And she ran.

Kilometer after kilometer. Mile after mile. Past the spot where she fell. Through every shadow of that memory. All the way to the finish line she’d been dreaming of for a year.

4 hours, 23 minutes. A personal record. A finish on her feet. A redemption written in sweat and tears and stubborn, unbreakable hope.

“Whatever you put your mind to, you can do it,” she says now. “I’m proof.” This story is for every woman who has fallen. Who has doubted. Who has wondered if she’d ever get back up.
Queenette got up. And she finished.

In loving memory of Late Chief DLJ Nwibani 🕊️

Part 3: Queenette 🏃‍♀️
After Lagos broke her heart, Queenette could have let that moment define her. Instead, months later, she showed up for the Enugu City Marathon. Different city. Different course. Same fire.

She finished. Medal in hand. Race conquered. But something still gnawed at her.
“It wasn’t Lagos,” she admitted. “Lagos is where I fell. Lagos is what I need to conquer.”

So this year, Queenette went back.
Same Lagos City Marathon. Same 42 kilometers. Same mile that took her down. Only now she carries something she didn’t have before: proof that she can finish.

She’s going back for redemption.
Run her way.

Part 2: Queenette – The Fall
Lagos City Marathon. Queenette had pushed through 41 kilometers. Her body was tired, her legs were burning, but the finish line was so close she could almost feel it. Then everything went dark.

She collapsed. One mile from glory. Runners and medics rushed to her side as she lay on the road, unconscious.

When she woke up, the race was over. The medal she had dreamed of was being worn by someone else.

Most people would have let that break them. But Queenette looked at that finish line and made a decision: I’m not leaving here without finishing what I started.

She got up. She walked. She limped. She crawled if she had to. And long after the crowds had cleared, Queenette crossed that finish line.

It wasn’t the finish she planned. But it proved exactly who she was.

Run her way.

Part 1: Queenette – The Beginning
Queenette started running at a time when her world felt like it was falling apart. She had lost her dad, a grief that sat heavy in her chest. And she was navigating a divorce, learning to rebuild a life she never imagined would look this way.

Running became her escape. Her therapy. The one place where she could outrun the pain, even if just for a few kilometers.

She didn’t know then that running would ask more of her than she ever expected. But she laced up anyway. Step by step. Day by day.

Run her way.

It's a victory song alongside a redemption story!

My earth neighbors, the marathon can break your heart. However, it can also be incredibly healing and rewarding!

The ghost of 2025 Lagos Marathon has been fully and truly exorcised with a PB to boot!
