As part of the 2026 Chicago Jazz Festival Citywide series we present a free show with Elastic Arts mainstays on Wednesday September 2nd. First up we’ll hear from electroacoustic duo Whisker (Ben Billington + Andrew Scott Young) who welcome cellist and electronic artist Lia Kohl in for a trio performance. These three can be heard together on their 2025 album ‘Trips’ released by Amalgam. Billington’s synthesizers weave within Young’s upright bass passages in the classic duo setting, but Kohl brings new life to their approach with cello, electronics, and piano.

We’ll then hear from trumpeter Corey Wilkes’ trio featuring Justin Dillard on organ and Jeremiah Collier on drums. Wilkes is known as an electro-acoustic soul artist, blending jazz, electronic music, and soulful vocals in his solo projects. His collaborations extend beyond the world of music, through film, visual art, and community building.

Chicago Jazz Fest has a rad ‘Citywide’ series every year supporting free gigs at tons of venues around town — always a good time. Honored that our Elastic curators thought Whisker was right for the job in 2026! We invited our pal Lia Kohl in for trio — it’ll certainly rule. Corey Wilkes Trio plays second, and they RIP. I’m very excited to play trio at TriTriangle this Friday with two of my oldest pals, Jason Soliday and Andrew Scott Young. This is one of the first venues I played in Chicago (when it was called Enemy), and an incredibly important institution. Thankful to be playing there 20 years later! We’ll be opening for our long-time California friend / incredible drummer Jacob Felix Heule’s band Voicehandler (you might know Jacob from Ettrick!), alongside a solo set from the always incred synthesist Sarah Lutkenhaus. The air is still a bit gnarly for everyone to be comfortable with an outdoor show, so the Compound pals are moving their Frank Hurricane extravaganza Saturday night to Elastic. We’ll also hear from the Chris Coleslaw Music Trio (w/ Mallory Linehan + Jake Acosta), Jessica Risker, and Timelife. It’s going to rule. Frank’s in town! WELP, this was cancelled too. NO MORE TRAYSH?!

TRAYSH show tonight was *canceled* for absolutely *wack* reasons, but we carry on. Join us for a fun outdoor show on July 18th at the Music House to make up for it — my third time playing there this year, so I guess it’s my home base? One week from today, BYSH rides again. Love this freewheelin’ band, wish we got to play more. Hey friends and family. The 8th Annual Elastic Arts Benefit is tomorrow, Saturday 5/16. Our small but mighty team have worked hard the last few months preparing an epic night of performances alongside food from Irazu, drinks from Star Union Spirits + Half Acre, a huge silent auction, and we’re honoring the wonderful composer Renee Baker with the Elastic Achievement Award. The AACM Percussion Ensemble, Infrathin (Whitney Johnson + Lula Asplund), and Sam Lewis / Hunter Diamond will present new work. It’s always a super fun party celebrating this community that has been building for 28 years. It would mean the world to have you come through. The ticket includes open food/drink and goes a long way in supporting our artist community. If you can’t make it to the event, the silent auction is absolutely stacked with items, including visual art, experiences, and record bundles (including mega bundles from the homies Orange Milk, Hasu Mountain, Drag City, Numero Group, Amalgam, Relative Pitch, + more!) — so get in there and bid on some bundles. Our medieval band Fortuna rides again this Sunday 5/17, this time for a wonderful family friendly ‘MayDay’ Maypole Party at Music House in Humboldt Park! This is an all ages event 2pm-4pm, so to all my fellow parents out there who we don’t see in the evenings as much these days, I’d love to see ya there! There will be a Jasper Sage appearance for sure! All friends encouraged to come and rock. There will be performances from Corey Smith and Deeply Choir as well.
