This February 21st that passed marks 146 years since the birth of a Mathematical Genius, Philosopher, Scientist, Scholar and Humanist: #osvaldogarciadelaconcha

When Trujillo was rising to power in the 1930's, Garcia de la Concha discretely participated in negotiations seeking to prevent his dictatorship, believing this would severely undermine liberty and morality in the country.

He was determined to advance academic freedom and integrity, ultimately costing him his position.

In an act of defiance, he drafts a manifesto demanding authorities guarantee autonomy for schools and universities from political interference.

This proved difficult to carry out -since the American military plan imposed by the armed intervention was in effect.

He witness how political interference in the educational development of people was an immorality, that without the independence of Dominican schools, it would never be possible to reach positive culture of the masses, but rather intellectual theft by official influences; or to that inflated mob of literature; or to the PhD who has never analyzed what is 'cause' in the logic of reasoned law; or what is "chemotaxis" in the intimate functioning of biological phenomena.

When President Horacio Vásquez summons Garcia de la Concha to reprimand him over this stance, the dignified professor refused to yield, responding argument-for-argument saying quote "Mis hijos estan acostumbrados a comer Mangu con platano, mejor pobre que ser parte de un gobierno corrupto "💣💥

Consequently, Vásquez fired him from his role directing the prestigious Normal School. This inadvertently affords him some solitude to finish “La Cosmica” meanwhile battling a decline in his health.

This book encapsulates a rigorous analysis that authoritarian forces stifling him failed to comprehend. He puts forth new perspectives on chemistry and physics to bring "transcendental rectifications" to Einsteins "sublime mistakes'' correcting "beautiful errors" he perceived in classical scientific thought.

Oddly enough he died in destitution a year later (1930) after publishing his book. I translated it to English, made a PDF & Audio-Book version on my link in bio by @quietchords
