QUIET FEAR (CA)Marking their 4th NFF appearance in almost as many years, Quiet Fear are back and better than ever! A decade on from their inception, the quartet are still the best kept secret in the City of Angels, consistently proving through their ferocious live sets and remarkable streak of future classic records that they stand alongside only a few peers; look no further than their 2021 LP, or their sensational split with Massa Nera (an easy candidate for best release of 2024). Wearing their cultural heritage & political rage on their sleeves, their kinetic energy has only barely been captured. Now, with the help of Iodine Recordings, the band presents "La Tierra Arriba / El Abismo Abajo”, a quantum leap forward for a group that already had us dead to rights. Freewheeling guitar heroics that unfurl & undulate at will, throat-shredding vocal performances that’ll knock the wind out of you, and a drummer more powerful & accurate than the Terminator himself all thread together to present a proof of life that sees these things as more than the sum of their parts—in the wake of the blast zone, a monument to screamo’s best among us remains. Just got Quiet Fear walking us through their actual LA. Backyards in East LA, houses down in South Central, and now The Smell, Mariachi Plaza, and Midnight Books holding down the Chicanx DIY circuit. Same rooms where LACispes and UnionDelBarrio organize against ICE sweeps and LAPD pressure in the neighborhood. The shows, the activism, the community.They talked about who they actually roll with - Respire, Cipres, Cienfuegos out here, plus New Friends in Canada, AFB in Mexico, TNMTH in Chile. On Spanish in their lyrics, they put it as an invite, not a wall.
