“I look out the window and see the squirrels running in infinities, and humming birds floating outside my door. It feels like I’m in the right place.”

Alejandra Jiménez (b. 1999, Madrid, Spain) is a Miami-based painter whose work explores the intersection of personal mythology, the collective unconscious, and the animistic.

Turns out Tianjin and Florida aren’t actually that far apart...

They’re just one exhibition away.

Please join us next Sunday for the opening of Tianjin, Florida, Cici McMonigle’s debut solo show with Sabbatikal and the inaugural presentation of Sabbatikal Projects.

I’ve had the privilege of watching this exhibition take shape over the past few months, and I’m so excited to finally share it with all of you. Cici has created a world that’s playful and immersive. I have a feeling this is going to be one of those exhibitions people remember.

Huge thanks to Cici for trusting us with this project, and to Max Machado and Quiet Hours (@quiethours.space) for all of the collaboration, generosity, and care that helped bring it to life. Also, a special thank you to Emily Vitar and Ben Smith for their incredible support. The best shows have a village making it all possible.

Hope to see you there.

Artist in Residence: Cici McMonigle, an artist based in Miami, FL, travels to Los Angeles for two months to create work ahead of a group show, and to explore a new medium.

The goal with the Quiet Hours Residency is to create new contexts for individuals seeking a way to expand their practice, forming another through-line to how we design and impact the environment immediately around us.

This is a 60 day residency in Beachwood Canyon, located in Los Angeles, California.

Life is oscillating between the ephemeral and the perpetual, subconsciously impacted by the sights, sounds, and structures in our immediate space.

Scaffold Sounds, “Environmental Play” is a series that draws attention to that space around us, and how our efforts can and should directly shape it.
