✨500 followers!✨

I honestly never expected to reach 500 followers when I started this little page over the summer. I’m blown away by everyone’s kindness.💚

After being made redundant and spending longer than expected unemployed, I wanted something positive to focus on. I’ve always loved reading and writing poetry, and creating this little bookish space has helped me so much.

I’ve loved reading, writing, creating and, most of all, connecting with so many lovely people along the way. It’s given me something to focus on and look forward to.

Thank you so much for being here, for supporting me and for sharing your love of books with me. It really does mean a lot.🥹📚

It was so hard only choosing one book! I knew I wanted a crime or fantasy book, and there were so many that caught my eye.

It’s Not What You Think by Clare Mackintosh 📚

A 3.5 ⭐️ read from me.

I enjoyed this book, but I have to admit I didn’t love it as much as my recent Lisa Jewell reads. I found the pacing a little slow in places and had guessed most of what was coming, including the big twist at the end.

I still enjoyed reading it and was interested to see how everything would play out, but I think I was hoping for a few more surprises along the way!

Square Music🎵

Sharing a different sort of poem with a little story behind it today.

Back at university, we pulled a scrap of paper out of a box and had to write a short poem using the words we picked.

I couldn’t do it.

I pulled out the words “square music”, and my brain just couldn’t find the words quickly enough to create something I felt was worthy of writing.

I wrote a sentence, which I had to read aloud to everyone. I knew it wasn’t good, and I felt embarrassed and out of place.

At the time, I thought I simply couldn’t do it.

But afterwards, in the quiet of my own space, where my brain works best, I wrote my poem.

It was a good reminder that sometimes it’s not that we can’t do something, it’s that the environment, pressure, or expectations aren’t allowing us to do it in the way our brains need.

So, for anyone with a brain like mine:

Never let someone judge your ability in an environment that wasn’t designed for you.💛

The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell📚

Another Lisa Jewell and another 4 ⭐️ from me!

I really enjoyed this one. I was gripped by the story and really liked the different characters and storylines, especially as everything slowly started to come together. Lisa Jewell is so good at creating books that I can’t put down!

I did find some of the themes a little more triggering than Invisible Girl, particularly the mum’s grief and the anxiety around a child going missing. Even though it’s an older child in this story, I still found this really emotional. But I absolutely loved the book and found myself wanting to keep reading to find out what had happened.

Another great read and one I’d definitely recommend.💙✨
