🌿MEADOW MONDAY🌿

Introducing another classmate sketch:

Bumble Bee hums while he works.
He hums while he thinks.
Sometimes, his little hum just helps him feel ready to learn.

Bumble Bee reminds us that every classroom has its own rhythm—and sometimes, what sounds like “noise” is actually helping a little learner navigate their day. 💛🐝

@quillhawkpublishing welcomes @reridesmith to the family! Daniel "Reride" Smith was born in Oakland, California, in 1961. After six years as an Airborne Paratrooper, Dan left the Army to pursue a rodeo career, earning three circuit championships in saddle bronc riding; he was given the nickname "Reride," and it has stuck with him to this day.

While building his rodeo career, Reride studied psychology and acting in North Carolina and later in Idaho. After moving west in 1996, he built his horse and cattle ranch (High Desert Horses). As a cowboy poet, "Reride" began to perform on stage as well as in horseback shows. However, his love for the camera was not complete. In 2015, Reride was hired as a Professional Wrangler on the Sony Pictures production of "Underground." Reride was recognized for his abilities, asked to perform many stunts during the four months of production, and eventually cast as an actor in the show.

You may recognize Reride in some of your favorite movies and shows. Check out his IMDb. Fun fact: he was the animal wrangler on movie sets such as Killers of the Flower Moon, Tulsa King, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Minari, A Quiet Place II, and more!

His book, The Journey, is a fictionalized biography. From the elite world of the 82nd Airborne to the bone-jarring arena of rodeo, Colt Stevens has never backed away from a challenge. But when an opportunity takes him from North Carolina to a working ranch in Wyoming, Colt finally has the chance to pursue the life he has always wanted: becoming a true cowboy. Rugged, romantic, and filled with adventure, The Journey is a Western story about courage, love, second chances, and discovering that sometimes the longest journey is the one that leads you home.

ILLUSTRATOR ALERT ‼️ Meet “Catherine Dinh.” She is the official illustrator of “Heather’s Heart Treasures” Book Series. Catherine is 16-yrs-old like me AND she was a student at Art Freiler Elementary School with me when I had my sudden cardiac arrest. FULL CIRCLE MOMENT 🤩! We are teaming up, as youth leaders, to bring my real life story, to kids to inspire them that anything is possibly, like REALLY.

From a California Law to Miss California Teen Top 10 to Harvard University. You can achieve anything with a positive mindset and a never give up attitude. Many will say no, you are too young, and you don’t have experience. But I am here to tell you they are wrong. Follow my book series to see my real life moments, how dreams come true, miracles do happen and having your portrait painted in England and going to Paris for youth leadership is REAL. If I can do it, so can you. Look 👀 for Book 1 in early, like early early 2027.

And my book series will even have a real life treasure hunt 🗺️ hidden in the text that will lead to a real treasure in REAL LIFE. And the treasure will be 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 💸 ✈️ 💎???

I can’t wait to bring you all on this amazing journey. taken in Tracy, California by @quillhawkpublishing

Quill Hawk Publishing is excited to welcome Dr. Robert Breedlove to the QHP family.

Robert Allan Breedlove, M.D., is a physician, journalist, world traveler, athletic official, photographer, and lifelong storyteller with deep roots in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

His love of writing began in childhood, inspired by his father, Col. C.H. Breedlove Sr., who introduced him to both travel and the art of capturing memories through postcards. That early influence became a lifelong passion. Dr. Breedlove earned a B.S. in news-editorial journalism from Oklahoma State University in 1969, where he worked on The Daily O’Collegian and the university yearbook and served as a correspondent for Oklahoma City and Tulsa newspapers. After working as a reporter for the Stillwater News Press and completing military service in the U.S. Army Infantry Reserves, he pursued medicine and earned his M.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1974.

Dr. Breedlove has practiced dermatology since 1978 and returned to his hometown of Stillwater in 1981. Throughout his medical career, he continued writing for news outlets while pursuing another lifelong passion—athletic officiating. An official since 1967, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Officials’ Association Hall of Fame in 2024.

His adventures have taken him and his wife, Debbie, to 103 countries across all seven continents. Married since 1981, they have three married children and three granddaughters. Guided by faith, family, curiosity, service, and a love of storytelling, Dr. Breedlove brings a lifetime of memories and observations to Musings in America’s Heartland, fulfilling a dream decades in the making.

🌿 MEADOW MONDAY 🌿
Sneak peek of cover sketch ✍🏼

So… where did the title come from?

The buzzing.

Not just the buzzing you hear in a meadow, but the kind you feel.

The thoughts. The feelings. The little storms that can be invisible to everyone else.

That’s where the metaphor began. 💛

Time to get personal…

Here’s the story behind the story. ✏️

After years of working in schools, one thing has stayed with me: there is no such thing as a “typical” classroom—or student. Every child has different strengths, needs, ways of communicating, ways of learning, and experiences we may not see. Each has something wonderful to offer.

🐛 Some carry big feelings.
🦋 Some become overwhelmed easily.
🐞 Some need movement.
🐝 Some need more time.
🦗 Some communicate in ways we may not immediately understand.
🐜 And some carry storms we cannot see.

But no one should have to weather those storms alone.

When we notice one another, make room for differences, and offer kindness instead of judgment, the sun shines a little brighter. ☀️ Everyone feels the warmth.

This story began a year ago, when I started putting ideas on paper. I created a meadow filled with bugs—a classroom of characters with their own strengths, struggles, personalities, and storms.

These bugs are more than characters. They represent all of us.

This book is my way of starting a conversation about inclusion, compassion, and bringing out the best in every “bug” in our lives.

Welcome to the story behind the story.

LIKE. SHARE. FOLLOW this journey and fall in love with these bugs.

Quill Hawk Publishing is honored that Mary Coley has chosen us to publish her next book!

Mary has written nine mysteries, a non-fiction children’s book, and numerous short stories. She is a longtime member of the Oklahoma Writers Federation, Inc., and a member of Mystery Writers of America, Women Writing the West, and the Sisters in Crime/Tornado Alley chapter. Coley won the Oklahoma Book Award for Fiction in 2022 and received the Tony Hillerman Award from New Mexico / Arizona Book Awards in 2018. A nature lover who enjoys traveling and spending time with her family, Coley can’t seem to write anything without someone ending up dead.

About Mary's next book, WHALE SONG:

Beaten and left for dead in a New Mexico arroyo, middle school science teacher Sierra struggles to remember her family, her life, and her loves. Who wants her dead? Twelve years earlier, at an Oklahoma university, Sierra and oceanographer Daniel are strongly attracted to each other when she attends a lecture on his research into whale song. Circumstances keep them apart until they meet again in New Mexico. Will she remember her past in time to save their lives?

The fascinating songs of the Earth’s largest animal can carry underwater for enormous distances. In WHALE SONG, an oceanographer and a science teacher close the distance of time and fate as they fight for their lives.
