Hey y'all- I've had a pretty constant onslaught about @freewayparkseattle 's The Clouds Are Lifting spring equinox illuminated art celebration on my story but here is your official post with the info-

April 7th from 7:30 to 9:30 pm
Come catch illuminated art and performances in Freeway Park's Seneca Plaza.

My collaborator @lindseyjune_613 and I will have our installation "Flowers In The Park" a collection of hand painted, sculptural tulips cast in a phosphorescent polymer that glows in the dark! Our flowers are integrated in with the existing springtime blooms of the park and come nightfall they turn into something really special. by @quinlyn_art

Hey y'all Thursday March 2nd head on over to the @hideoutseattle to check out the new wall rehang and get a gander at Art List Vol 3. In addition to it being a wonderful catalog chronicling the many seasons of the Hideout's wall space it also features some great articles, one of which by yours truly! Read an interview of the @psychopompprojects founders @siolothompson and @nathan.m.langston by @amandamanitach. The newest issue of the Pioneer Post by @lloyd_gregory and my article The Salt You Use Tastes Like Shit.

Huge thank you to @art_goers who has given me so many opportunities recently and is seriously such a light in Seattle's art community.

You can also preview the magazine online at the Hideouts website 💛 by @quinlyn_art

Sometimes photographing the work is more fulfilling than making it 🤣 here is one of my rubber orange peels. I explained the process a while back of how I make them. First I sculpted the orange out of clay and made a silicone mold. Then I would pigment batches of rubber and paint them into the mold so any color variation on this piece isn't actually paint it is multiple layers of that pigmented rubber. I would gently paint in the stem, let that cure, then the bright orange highlights, cure, then any slightly off color splotches, cure, a medium orange color, cure, a dark shadowy orange color, cure, then a base off white color for the inside of the orange, cure, and my final coat I would add filler to so it would have a texture simulating the interior of the peel. Then that final layer would partially cure and I would throw the whole orange in a container of powered sugar to matify that last layer of off white fuzzy interior. Then wash off the sugar and voila, a dark orange that looks like a real one.

Oh and these babies are still for sale so dm me if you just fell in love 💛

I've been getting really into making thins that look more on the real side recently, I don't know if they are more interesting but they are more challenging in many ways. I am also really loving the format of sculpting something, molding it and then casting it in an interesting way. I'm working on the clay for another cast piece now that I am so excited about. I think I am going to make this one fiberglass because it makes sense for the treatment I want to apply to it after the fact, but that's a whole other tangent- by @quinlyn_art

Year in review-
2022 was kind of a big one for me. The opportunities and the people were unmatched to be totally honest, it is weird looking back and knowing that this year is probably going to be one the of the highlight years of my entire life. I got to travel to Europe multiple times for work with @johngradestudio which was the most amazing experience. I got to be with some of my favorite people ever (my amazing coworkers) and install some great work at both Kew Gardens in the UK and Chateau Chaumont in France. I can now say i have repeatedly fallen down a hill in London in front of coworkers, sprayed water from a boom lift at a kenetic aculpture, got stalked by a cat across a french chateau, stayed in an English manor house, stayed in a seed bank, and literally so much more... And each install had a tiny vacation tacked onto it with the absolute love of my life @linnyloo613 and to be honest the shenanigans we got into were unmatched. We walked into some weird wine ceremony in a cave in France where there was a group of like 20 Frenchman in red robes and we accidentally almost went on stage with them. We hiked into a hotsprings in Iceland in the most insane wind storm ever and I almost had an asthma attack. We took a night walk every night around the grounds of a French castle only to be eventually told by security that there were wild boar and we shouldn't walk around at night. I also got to do my first art show since before covid and it felt so good to not just aimlessly be making work, but to make work that was meant to be seen together. I felt like I kicked off some of the rust I was feeling and made a couple things I was really floored by. New year new things. by @quinlyn_art
