Which one would you start? Comment the number 👇

None of these need a degree or a big budget. Pick one skill, message 20 people, and offer a small paid test.

Most proposals get ignored for the same reason 📄

They open with "I am writing to express my interest in this position." Nobody finishes that sentence.

Here's what to do instead:

Lead with them, not you. First line is about their job. Your background can wait.

Prove you read it. Name one detail only someone who actually read the post would know.

One idea, not a menu. Say the single thing you'd do first and why. A list of services reads like copy-paste.

One sample. The closest thing you have to the job, not your whole portfolio.

Make the yes tiny. End with a small question, not a hard pitch.

Shorter than you think is right. Under 150 words beats a page, every time.

"I'm not ready yet."

No portfolio. No testimonials. No idea what to charge.

Someone would laugh if you offered.

I know, because that's the exact sentence that kept me from starting.

Here's the uncomfortable part: nobody is ready first. The portfolio comes from the work. The confidence comes from the work. The price comes from doing it a few times and noticing nobody flinched.

You don't get ready and then start. You start, badly, and ready shows up about four weeks later.

So today, pick one business with a weak Instagram, find one specific thing you'd fix, and send one message about it. That's it. That's the whole thing.

What's the excuse you've been using? Be honest 👇

Client went quiet? Here's exactly what to say 📩

Silence usually isn't a no. It's a busy inbox.

Wait 3 days. Don't send a second message the same day. Owners are running a business, not watching their DMs.

Send one short bump. "Just bumping this in case it got buried. Still happy to send those examples either way 🙂" No guilt, no "just following up again," no apology.

Give them an easy out. If they're still quiet, send one last line: "No worries if the timing's off. Mind if I check back in a month?" Then set a reminder and actually do it.

Then stop. One follow-up, not five. The month-later check-in is where a surprising number of jobs come from, because by then something has changed on their end.

Small Business Spotlight: @therockspottn 🔮

The Rock Spot sells crystals, gemstones, and fossils in Pigeon Forge, TN. The part that stuck with me: they credit word of mouth above everything else. Not ads, not a viral post. People telling other people.

Swipe for how they got their first customer, the mistake they'd help a beginner avoid, and their advice for anyone starting out.

My favorite answer: start slow and steady. That applies to whatever you're building right now too. Slow and steady still wins 🐢

7 red flags in a freelance gig 🚩

Not every bad client is a scam, but these are worth slowing down for:

You pay to start. A real client pays you.

The "test" is real work. A sample is one small piece, not a full project.

No clear scope. If they can't say what, how much, or by when, you'll do three jobs for one price.

Overpayment. They send too much and ask for the difference back. The first payment reverses later.

Odd payment methods. Gift cards, crypto, or a wire to a personal account before any work.

Rushed and secretive. Urgency plus "let's move off the platform" is a pattern.

Nothing in writing. No scope, no price, no deadline means no way to get paid when it goes wrong.

Happy Halloween from Quit Plan Co 🎃

Skeletons, witches, a haunted doorway. None of it beats the feeling of opening your laptop Monday morning for a job you've already outgrown.

The good news: the way out isn't scary. It's one skill, one offer, and one message sent to someone who needs it.

You're not behind 🚪

It's easy to feel late when your feed is full of people who look three years ahead of you. But most of them aren't three years ahead. They're just three months louder.

Here's what's actually true: you picked a skill, you started a plan, and you've sent messages most people never send. That's not behind. That's early in something the majority never begin at all.

Slow weeks are part of it. Keep the 3 tasks, keep showing up, and judge it after 20 messages, not 2.

Month 2 is where most people quit 📉

Month 1 runs on excitement. Month 2 runs on a system. Here's a 30-day plan for the stretch where it stops feeling fun:

Week 1: Pick 3 weekly tasks and nothing else. 5 DMs, 1 post, 1 follow-up.

Week 2: Track who you messaged and what came back. Slow weeks feel different when you can see the numbers.

Week 3: Change one thing, not everything. Usually it's your opening line.

Week 4: Follow up with everyone who went quiet. Most people never send that message.

Judge it after 20 messages, not 2.

The DM I'd send if I had zero clients 📩

Cold outreach doesn't have to feel awkward. Here's the simple formula:

Open with one specific compliment. Mention something real from their page, not "love your content."

Offer one useful idea. Share one fix you'd make, with no pitch.

Ask a tiny question. "Want me to send 2 examples?" is easy to say yes to.

Example: "Hey [name], love your latest post on [topic]! One idea: your first line could be stronger. Want me to send 2 examples?"

Replies depend on the business and your message, so send 20 and track what works.
