For Whom the Bell Tolls? is a choreography film shot on 16mm, exploring exile, loss, and the search for a place that can be called home.

Following Hemingway’s philosophy that “no man is an island” and that every loss reverberates through the lives of others, the film approaches exile through the body. Choreography becomes a way of expressing what cannot always be articulated: the feeling of being displaced, searching for connection, and trying to find one’s place again.

The movement is accompanied by an original composition by a Mexican musician, rooted in the sounds of Mexican folk traditions used to carry sound across mountains. The music becomes another landscape of displacement, a voice travelling from somewhere else, looking for a new home.

The film is created by an international team of artists who themselves work across borders and different cultural contexts. Their collaboration becomes part of the film’s exploration of displacement, connection, and belonging. At Karla Garten at Haus der Statistik, the artists combine performance, cinema and dance.

Come to see the film on screen and experience its movement brought to life in the space.
Followed with a fire place and drinks in a cosy atmosphere
