9 months ago I was approached to take part in SADI 2026. 7 months ago, I started drawing out my project and watched it grow over time. Growing up, I was a boy who was a dreamer. The movies I watched, the books I read, the music I listened to made me wish for a world drenched with dreamscapes and fantasy. And I think that’s the essence of the pictures I capture and the drawings I did as a kid — crafting this little big world of magical undertones that feel suspended in reality. I felt like I could achieve that with photography which has been growing with me for fifteen years but never with art. And for so long, I’ve wanted to work on an art piece that spoke to that. Something that carried the feeling of worldbuilding, mythology, and magic — while still feeling rooted in something human and inherited. In its essence, Sadu was never just decoration or ornament. It felt like a language. A system of rhythm, instinct, emotion, storytelling, and identity woven together through generations. It felt architectural, spiritual, and cosmic to me — like fragments of a lost world being preserved.

So this piece became my attempt at building a dreamscape around that. A woven world where desert landscapes breathe with myth, where women weave histories into existence, where plants become pigments, where trade routes, animals, rituals, architecture, and memory all exist together like scenes from an ancient dream. I wanted it to feel alive — suspended somewhere between folklore and reality, between archive and fantasy - reinterpreted through the soul of Sadu. Not as nostalgia, but as transformation. As if tradition could become a living world again through time.

At its heart, this project is about imagination as preservation. How culture and history survive not only through documentation, but through reinvention. “The Woven World” became my way of weaving all of those things. A major thank you to Sadu House for this opportunity. Thank you to the amazing SADI team for helping bring my wish to reality, my family for helping me dream big, and the incredible and loving friends who have been there along the way of it. I didn’t think I’d be able to accomplish this but we’re here now. by @qvtaiba

Through symbolic and surreal imagery, Qutaiba Buyabes’s triptych traces the evolution of Sadu across time and generations. The work repositions Sadu as both a living heritage and a system of knowledge, where repetition becomes rhythm, structure becomes memory, and the thread extends as a line of thought. Unfolding across the stages of Origins, Life and Rhythm, and Transformation, the piece explores Sadu as an architecture of thought shaped by environment, movement, and the hand.

The piece is on view as part of the SADI exhibition at Sadu House until Saturday, 20th June 2026.

Summer, suspended.

Noticing some weird thematic pattern I’m coming back to with photographing figures around trees or landscapes that makes everything feel eerily but poetically out of place. I just recently purchased DaVinci Resolve Studio and I think it changed the game… used old film and digital photos to dummy-test the edits and here they are 🌌🪾🩵 by @qvtaiba

Turned 30 on the fifteenth of April a few days ago (aka the apocalyptic day the Titanic sank, tax day, and the day the Notre Dame burned down but Emma Watson and Seth Rogen were born too so that’s a plus-?) Whenever I look back at my childhood photos I just think about how fast everything is moving and changing. But I’m super thankful for the friendships that shaped me and the places that held me and the things I’m learning along the way, and this little life that’s still coming together 💘💘💘🩵🩵🩵🌠🌠🌠

Here’s a little-ish letter I wrote for Al Zajil Mail Club’s April letters that @rawmohaa kindly asked me to contribute to and I was happy to do so @alzajilmailclubkw + along with some childhood photos and past birthdays that have come and gone

It sums up a lot of how I’ve been feeling about growing older, how I’m not young anymore, the world then and the state of the world now and how little we are in this vast wide somewhere of the world but how life still kind of goes on I guess .. I don’t even know at this point 🤣 Also forgive my handwriting, I know it’s super wonky and barbaric, it looks like an ant wrote it. by @qvtaiba
