For someone who spends so much of his life behind the camera, I’ve surprisingly spent very little time in front of it. I’m much more comfortable observing, composing, and capturing than being the one captured.

So I finally decided to reverse roles - and I couldn’t have asked for a better set of eyes to have behind the lens than @yellowbellyphoto. Turns out, being photographed isn’t nearly as uncomfortable when you trust the person taking the picture. by @r.j.guillermo

There’s something about being brought in during the final stages of construction, especially for a punch list walk-through, that makes so much sense to me.

The project is almost there, but not quite. There’s still a little dust, blue tape everywhere, a few things being adjusted, and that beautiful tension between what was imagined and what is about to become real.

And honestly, I love seeing a space in that moment.

I get to see the details the designer fought for, the materials come together, the imperfections that make it human. But more importantly, I get to hear the stories behind the decisions - the why, the little moments, the things you wouldn’t know just by looking at the finished space.

That’s when a project starts to come alive and breathe.

For me, that context is everything. It changes how I see the space, how I photograph it, and ultimately how I tell its story without having to say too much.

I know traveling with kids can feel daunting—the flights, passports, packing, and all the extra gear. Believe me, I start to get panic attacks with the thought of a 10 hour flight untangling headphone cords and lugging around a collapsible stroller through an airport. So why go through all the extra work?

1. The world is their classroom. Culture, history, food, and people teach lessons no textbook can.
2. Embrace the unknown. Get lost, explore, and discover that the best adventures are often unplanned.
3. Build independence. Learn to navigate, problem-solve, and adapt when things don’t go as planned.
4. Grow empathy. Experience different cultures and understand perspectives beyond their own.
5. Choose adventure over comfort. Raise curious, courageous kids who aren’t afraid to try something new.

We don’t just want to show them the world. We want them to feel confident exploring it. by @r.j.guillermo
