The Blue Tide had an amazing day in the studio recording the soundtrack for our family documentary, Where I Got My Name, with Grammy Award-winning producer @r8dio! šŸŽ¶šŸ”„ R8dio was incredible to work withā€”so skilled, creative, and generous with his knowledge. We learned so much and had a blast bringing the blues to this deeply personal story. Canā€™t wait for you all to hear what we created. #WhereIGotMyName #R8dio #FilmScore #Soundtrack #Documentary by @r8dio
S.Y.W.T.B.A.N (SO YOU WANT TO BE A NIGGA) PRODUCED BY @r8dio MIXED BY @r8dio When I think about how outsiders view rap and hip hop, Iā€™m reminded of that scene in Toy Story when Andy throws Woody aside and says, ā€œI donā€™t want to play with you anymore.ā€ Thatā€™s how Black culture is often treated. Itā€™s embraced, studied, and imitated until people get what they want from it, and then itā€™s discarded just as quickly. We understand the fascination. Our influence is global. You can walk through almost any city in the world and hear echoes of how we speak, see reflections of how we move, embodied in people it doesnā€™t naturally belong to. But thereā€™s always a catch. No one wants the full weight of what it means to be us. Itā€™s acceptable as long as it can be worn like a costume, something to step into and out of at will. Thereā€™s comfort in proximity, but not in reality. People want access to the rhythm, the language, the style, but not the lived experience behind it. They want the expression without the responsibility. And within hip hop itself, thereā€™s a contradiction that rarely gets addressed. Itā€™s one of the only genres where aging is treated like expiration. The deeper the experience, the less itā€™s valued. The more youā€™ve lived, the quieter your voice is expected to become. And that standard was never set by us. S.Y.W.T.B.A.N is now available on all platforms āš’ļøāš’ļø by @r8dio
LJ.W.T.F (LARRY JOHNSON WITH THE FADE) PRODUCED BY @r8dio MIXED BY @r8dio @higherlearning with @vanlathan & @therachlindsay is one of my favorite podcasts to listen to. Their insights and knowledge into not just our culture but the world is something I look forward to digesting weekly. Recently, Van had a segment around substance in music that really poked at me and led me to write this verse. Being able to express yourself conceptually clear with layers is hard. As a human, we have multiple layers. Weā€™ve been tricked by capitalism into believing our identities are tied to our appearance, what we have of value, our cultural and political views, and so on. Who I am is this current moment. Itā€™s constantly changing. I have far too much duality to be able to explain ā€œWho Are Youā€ with a punchline. With that said, LJ.W.T.F is now available on all platformsāš’ļøāš’ļø by @r8dio
A big thank you to @jacknewsome @r8dio and @mikeseaberg . We couldnā€™t have shamoned and heheā€™d our way through ā€œYOU SHOULD BE MINEā€ without them. In all seriousness, there is no Full Circle Boys right now without these 3. Theyā€™re the Boys to our Full Circle. Itā€™s a pleasure to be in a room with people who are masters of their craft, and the fact that we get to work with them is an honor. Hereā€™s to many more amazing songs from this crew šŸ‘€ Our first ā€œCIRCLE SESSIONSā€ is out now on our YouTube. Watch now and learn how the song was made! by @r8dio

My bro @torbjorncrawford and his family lost their home in the #EatonFire. I used to live right across the street. I did the entire @dumblondeofficial album at that house which is also gone. @aubreyoday by @r8dio
