This April marks 3 years since I published my first (hopefully not last) book, Wisdom From A Humble Jellyfish 🪼 Since then, I've been lucky enough to be thrown into my dream community of authors, writers, and creatives. I feel cool and small all the time—it's freakin awesome.Though I never got a chance to have a proper book launch—thanks COVID—what I've had the privilege to be a part of the last few months more than makes up for it: Hi, I'm @lilly's Librarian for one of the largest, most badass, South Asian bookclubs: @lillyslibrary 🕺🔥📚As our Desi bookclub is about to hit 100K on IG, I want to invite you to join @lillyslibrary (simply by following the account is how you join, it's easy I promise) and read a lil' something with me and @lilly.📚 Let's get stories by brown authors where they belong: on every bookshelf.Lastly, with every cool achievement comes some very cringe, awkward, demoralizing road bumps. came on here in my bells palsy glory because social media stopped being cute sometime around 2016. @meta @meta.ai @instagram bite me: they can access WAYYY more about your information than you think and any detail you share I guarantee is being used in the backend, this new feature being a default basically guarantees it.With every added piece of information it only *adds* to your digital AI footprint: and it also begins creating one for people who didn't consent to having one (friends, kids, grandparents, etc.)Be safe. We moved to Seattle....for fun. Which means we're incredibly lucky to even be able to make "fun" life decisions that large.It doesn't come without a 180 adjustment though. as part of forcing myself to get my writing muscle back into shape I'm diving into the cheesiest way I could think of: putting my emotions on Instagram via a random template.haters will say it's fake but I am my own hater so jokes on me.maybe this becomes a blog series or a book one day. TWO. WEEKS. OFF. That’s the time some non-birthing partners in the U.S. get after having a baby.Two weeks is also the same amount of time people take to go visit India.Not to heal. Not to bond. Not to adjust to life with a newborn. Just back to work.When we talked to Rani about her postpartum experience, she shared how her husband had over 2 months off and how different that made everything.Because it’s not just about help, it’s about partnership, rest, and being able to survive one of the hardest transitions of your life.The fact that your job determines how much support you get after childbirth is absolutely insane.It’s not a privilege.
