I’ve done a car thing! It’s been a while. I hurt the engine when I took it out first time. New cam has arrived (loooong expensive story - stay away from Rover V8s) so while it’s all apart I have modded my sump. It was impossible to clean out with a fixed base and didn’t have enough drain back holes so I’ve made a removable windage tray/top cover. I’m contemplating a crank scraper. by @racebreakfixrepeat

Because I no longer have a hoist (hopefully temporarily) I had to hire workshop space to pull the Imp motor. I really hate not having a hoist. It was a 45 mins drive each way and it was stressful as I had a 4 hour slot. Nice guy, good place. @myhoist.com.au

Annyyywwaayyy … engine is out and it’s with my guy Peter (another Peter) for some love. I also have a new gearbox built by the Historic Sports Sedan whisperer Simon. The ratios are beautiful (overdriven 3rd and 4th). It’s going to be amazing once it’s back together and it has the biggest #accusump money can buy. by @racebreakfixrepeat

So yeah. I went to Calder Park. The car is a f***ing rocket. I did a lot of work on camber, toe and brake balance during the week, which really paid off. It’s bonkers fast. I’m redlining and lifting off halfway down the straight at 210kph. That feels plenty fast enough in a car this size.

Unfortunately I think my sump design is a bit off. Slowing from 210kph to a hairpin has exposed a surge issue and I think I’ve hurt my beautiful motor as it developed a knock. I’ll get it fixed, probably fit a dry sump arrangement ($$$$) then go again. Who needs money anyway?

I made an alignment rig. It’s actually pretty good now so hopefully it will be nicer under brakes. by @racebreakfixrepeat

Once you go black … It’s finally painted. In the spirit of the original build I used rattle cans. It’ll buff up well.

I’m prepping the car for paint which is a completely #&@%ed process. Anyway the passenger door actually looked pretty cool prior to spray filler.

It goes without saying that returning from the biggest historic race meeting in the southern hemisphere got me inspired. Today’s artwork is called the dripping arch. Rather good I think.
