It’s been quite a whiplash of a week, but thank you @coveringclimate for starting it with some good news 💚

I am incredibly honored to be named journalist of the year alongside people I look up to. Climate coverage is so challenging, but so critical. As someone born and raised in the Mariana Islands, I genuinely do the work that I do for the people on the frontlines. They contribute the least to the climate crisis, yet suffer the most consequences. Yes, it’s about science but really, it’s about the people. 🌏 by @rachelreports

🌍 Global leaders must #ActNow for a healthy planet. During the SDG Media Zone: UNGA79, Selwin Hart @selwinhartun, Special Adviser to the Secretary-General and Assistant Secretary-General on Climate Action and Just Transition talked to @RachelRamirez from @cnnclimate about the challenges and opportunities of a just transition to achieve the objectives of the Paris Agreement. He emphasized the need to align NDCs with net-zero commitments, for developing countries to lead by example, and for appropriate financial support to be provided to developing economies.

I’m sooo excited to share this new collaboration series that launched today with support from @coveringclimate called Betting the House, a pop-up collaboration of journalists reporting on what the climate crisis means for the places we call home. As extreme weather events become more frequent and severe, the questions around where we live, and how it will be affected by a warming planet, become more pointed.

In this series, four independent climate journalists based in the US have joined together to simultaneously report the story of housing and climate change — from different states, with different angles, for different media. They are @emorwee, Editor-in-Chief of @heated.world (formerly The New Republic); @chasecain, Correspondent for Chase What Matters (formerly NBC News); Myself, Founder and Editor of @theconfluence.news (formerly CNN); and @bentracysnaps, Senior Climate Correspondent for Climate Central (formerly CBS News). @tracy_j_wholf, Executive Producer for WereWHOLF Media (formerly CBS News and ABC News), produced the project.

My story, Buying on the Brink in Hawai’i, does a deep dive into O’ahu’s disappearing shoreline. As owners pour millions into Hawai’i’s crumbling coastal estates, private property rights clash with public beach survival.
