What has shaped me to be the Educator I am today 🖤

🌟 Lesson Learned:
“Listen to understand, not to respond.”
This lesson taught me the importance of truly comprehending my students’ messages rather than listening merely to formulate a reply. It fosters trust, connection, and rapport, increasing productivity and reducing misunderstandings.

📚 Mentors:
I’ve had many positive influences shape my journey as an educator.
Prior to my time at Redken, my Principal Lecturer at TAFE SA showed me the positive impact of active listening: speak less and listen more.

During my Redken journey, I was shaped by two Powerhouse Educators, Jo Migliaccio and @adam_lorealgroupeph
Together, they took what I already knew and infused it with a vibrant Redken energy, exemplifying the power of delivery and maintaining energy once I had the message from the learner.

These insights have shaped my teaching philosophy, encouraging me to continuously discover and rediscover the best ways to be learner-focused and responsive to every unique individuals needs.

✨ Closing an incredible chapter.

Today is the day! After almost 8 years as the Redken Educator for South Australia & Tasmania, it’s time to hang up my colour swatches and say goodbye to a career that’s given me so much.

Here’s just two minutes of memories.
Conferences, classes, events, weddings, babies, HQ lift selfies, content shoots, fashion weeks, salon dogs, covid masks, a whole lot of travel and laughter. Every memory is so special 🙏🏼

To every salon, student and teammate who trusted me and grew with me - thank you. 🖤
I’ve given this role everything I have and everything I can.

Now it’s time for my next adventure… and for the remainder of the year it involves feathers 🐓

5 Hours Later 👉🏼 Brunette to Bright Blonde
Here’s the break down👇🏼

1️⃣ High Quality lightener @redkenpro Flash Lift Bondor Inside, keeping this hair strong + bright

2️⃣ 4million @foilmefoils Teasy Lights, Tip Outs + Classics to create this High Impact Blonde that still feels soft at the root ensuring the grow out will be low maintenance and soft!

3️⃣ This was all in the placement and techniques used to ensure we weren’t going to rely on a Root Shadow

4️⃣ Glossed with Shades Eq and treated with ABC

5️⃣ Removed all the weight ✂️ with @excellentedges Marlins prior to colouring for a few reasons…
~ Bec has so much hair + she wants less
~ it gives me texture in the hair which makes teasy lights and tip outs even easier to create
3~ if I coloured before cutting I would be devastated to see all that beautiful blonde on the ground 😆

When we cut and colour with purpose the results show!

The progression of learning, highlighting how passive information (telling) is less effective than active engagement (teaching and involving).

Telling: Information presented without interaction leads to forgetting.

Teaching: Demonstrations and guided instruction lead to remembering.

Involving: Active participation and hands-on experience results in true learning and understanding.

Moving house and deep cleaning and came across some of my very own tradeschool work …. Straight out of the 90’s 😆

Perfect example of Principle based education = Timeless

I was obsessed with pH as much then as I am now 👩‍🔬🧪

I was quite intrigued by Hairdressing History which is why the Sweeney Todd printout (google the full story if you like gruesome stories or see if you can track down the movie with Johnny Depp).
The story behind blood, bandages and Barber Poles is fascinating and what would a bit of history be without 10 online resources for mullet lovers 🤣
