This edition of A WTF Cut!, our community-curated watchlist series, invites someone we admire to share the films that have shaped their relationship to cinema.

For our second Cut!, Omaha-based filmmaker-writer-🌟 Rachel Williamson (she/her) shares a selection that reflects the films, voices, and influences that continue to inform her work. Like Rachel's own filmmaking, these films are interested in what happens when the mask slips.

As the guest curator for Whatstheirface Film Club Meeting 002 on June 29, Rachel has selected a double feature pairing her 2025 short film JUICE with the film that inspired it all: BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER (1999).

From unglamorous truths to awkward revelations, these films embrace emotional honesty. They laugh in the face of embarrassment, examine the identities we perform, and invite us to be seen a little more clearly.

I admit… it is extra sweet to take home Best Narrative after being accused a few times of making “a film about nothing” 💥 so sip on that freshly squeezed fruit juice! 🧃

Won Best Cinematography for MYCELIUM at a festival in Florence, Italy. Couldn't be more excited. I shot this film with two lenses, all natural light, and completely handheld. Sort of challenged myself with a Dogma95-esque code. But it was a challenge that paid off very well in the end. I love this film and I'm very excited for more people to see it.

Last July, we welcomed local filmmaker (and dear friend) @joshualabure into our home to film his newest feature, If That's What You Want. Freshly moved in, it felt only natural to make things a little more chaotic by jumping in as the film's producer and roping my husband (@roninscarr) into art direction and wardrobe alongside me.

We laughed. I cried. (Honestly, I think everyone cried.) We did it all in the sweltering Omaha summer heat, which somehow feels less and less like a one-off with each passing year...

Tonight, we'd love to welcome you to @projecting.underground for a special friends-and-family-style sneak peek!! It feels especially meaningful with only one month left in our microcinema pop-up at @millworkcommons. Come help us welcome this film to Omaha, then stick around afterward to chat with the team.
