It’s one month until my show at @antlerpdx and as things start to come together I’m getting so excited* to show you all! Tons of ceramic work still to do, but anyway save the date! We welcome Rachel Warkentin to Mixi’s 2026–2027 exhibition cycle.

Rachel Warkentin is an artist based in Portland, Oregon. Her practice is based on vulnerability and on the idea of being wanted or treasured. Working primarily in ceramics, oil paint, and egg tempera, she often moves between these materials, repeating images and making copies of copies so that the story changes slightly with each iteration.

As she writes, “I think a lot about vulnerability, and the idea of being wanted, or being treasured.” Landscapes and florals drawn from dollhouse paintings, together with objects encountered in everyday circulation, become vehicles for questions of appeal, diminishment, and care. Collaboration with other artists is a critical part of her process.

Warkentin received a BFA from Oregon State University and an MFA from Claremont Graduate University. She has presented solo exhibitions in Portland, Corvallis, Los Angeles, and Long Beach, including Household Apparitions and 7 Things Never To Say To An Inanimate Object, and has an upcoming exhibition at Antler Gallery in Portland. Her work has been shown in group exhibitions in Oregon, California, Washington, Missouri, and Venice, Italy. I had the pleasure of seeing @joshuaraywalker sing last weekend, and you can see my painting of him at @_thelpshow_ this Saturday at Albina Press! 6-9pm. This is my version of his album What Is It Even, a collection of covers of women singers that were influential to him.

If you know me, you know that his album Stuff is my true favorite, and influenced a fair amount of my recent work, but that cover is an empty box and this cover is just a lot prettier and more fun to paint, so here we are!
