My latest project is complete! It’s based off a Fender Mustang, cuz I wanted something with the oft-misunderstood Fender “Dynamic Vibrato” to use to make ambient music. It’s a @fender Player II Mustang neck & vibrato, @warmothguitar body and pickguard, a @tuffsetbridge bridge, @bareknucklepickupsofficial Steve Stevens Rebel Yell, an old 80s @seymourduncanpickups stack of some kind, and a @couch_guitar_straps I had that needed a guitar to go with.

Big thanks to Doug at The Music Techs for spraying the body and helping me do most of the sanding and buffing myself. And to @chriz_razk for not only showing me the perfect @knobheadpdx knobs, but giving them to me too! And of course @ashguitarguy for the help with the assembly, and the other folks at The Music Techs for putting up with me.

Some people talk about how Dark Side of the Moon and The Wizard of Oz sync up, I talk about how Paranoid and 1080 Snowboarding sync up.

Big thanks to my mom @kristen.pinkney ‘s record club for mailing this to her back in 1970. And to my sister @bregani for letting me know that mom had a really cool record in her collection while we raced through level 3 “Golden Forest”. There are only about 5 or 6 records in my large record collection where I care about the exact copy I have, and this one with Mom’s sticker is easily one of the most important of those. I’ll fight any of my sisters and my dear mother for custody of it, any time.

Quite possibly my fondest memory of ever playing music was when my old band @_hear_vt was a supporting act at the dying local dive bar, and the owner found out that hardcore bands have really really short sets. (shout out to the boices in @voices_in_vain & @jackisdeadvt) So the burden fell on us add like an hour to our set to keep the customers there. We of course didn’t have more than one song to add to the set, so we played extra long versions of everything. We ended the set with one of my all-time favorite pieces of music; War Pigs/Luke’s Wall (Big emphasis on the Luke’s Wall part). For that one, I’d bust out the weird 4-pickup baritone and we’d do it slow and low in C instead of E, and i’d use lots of delay and my nastiest fuzz. It was usually around 10 minutes, but that night we made it to 20. I wasn’t even thinking of making it longer, it just fell out of my body that way. Fastest 20 minutes of my life, and I could’ve gone another 10. But Jack cut his hand on a glass of water so the set ended there, having just crossed the finish line and successfully filling enough stage time.

Many times when I get into an artist, I go deep and listen to everything from them. That hasn’t happened yet with Sabbath, because I keep going “Well, i coulllddd just listen to Paranoid again…” cuz I just love it too much. RIP Ozzy. So I dropped my lowest string down 1 whole step, and then raised my highest string 1 whole step. But this is a baritone guitar, *and* i put a capo on 2. So the final tuning is B F# B E G# D#. I don’t know what to call that, but the final result is that I came up with this. by @rad.d.plaid

DIY Sepia tone for Tiple Time! An American Tiple is a 10-string instrument that was popular from the 1910s mostly through the 1930s that is kinda like a steel string version of ukulele but with 10 strings; two courses of 2 strings, two courses of 3 strings. it’s tuned aA dDd f#F#f# bB. This 1937 @martinguitar is probably the only pre-war Martin i’ll ever be able to afford. My @mjtagedguitars VTT Deluxe with @hipshotproducts B-Bender is finally complete! Big thanks to @ashguitarguy for installing the B-Bender and assembling the whole instrument! At the beginning of the year I had the idea to get a guitar that would actually change how I play, and a B-Bender was the obvious choice! But regular Telecasters aren’t as useful as Tele Deluxes for the kind of music I play, so the path became obvious. I reached out to MJT, they helped me spec everything I wanted, including skipping the upper bout pickup selector rout, since I couldn’t combine that with a Bender! I even asked for a custom color they don’t offer based off a picture of a paint sample, and they mixed “something close” up themselves. Not only did they meet my expectations, they exceeded them! I love it! And yeah, I had to pair it with the Denim Fender case and the perfect @couch_guitar_straps strap too.

Specs: Roasted Pine Double Bound Body in Root Beer Metallic.
Roasted Maple neck w/ Stainless Steel Frets, Graphite Rods, Matching Headstock.
@lollarpickups Aged Regal Wide Range Humbuckers.

So here’s the lowdown/demo of one of my weirder guitar projects. A 1994 Squier Bullet Strat wired up with one middle position Humbucker, and some weird electronics options. Often at work, I’m surprised by what comes in the door. Usually it’s guitars, but today is was this lil’ kitten! Our work neighbors Antiques on Elm saw this cat run out from someone’s car into their store, and thought that they were one of our customers. So @kittysheaa watched the little buddy while I tried to figured out where he came from. At first I got nothing, since none of our customers had brought a cat with them. But then after reviewing camera footage, we realized it came from under the hood in the engine compartment! Scary!!! Turns out this little one belonged to the neighbor of one of our drum students who lives just a short drive away, so I was able to bring them back home safely! Here’s a little explanation about Time-Based Effects I put together, because it can be hard to see how they’re all so closely related. The 1970s MXR M-113 Digital Delay is a great unit because it can make all of these sounds and more easily!
