FAIR STATE BREWING | Northeast Minneapolis, MN For more than a decade, Fair State was a fixture on Central Avenue in Northeast Minneapolis. Fair State Brewing Cooperative began in Minneapolis in 2014, opening its taproom at 2506 Central Avenue NE. Built around a cooperative model, Fair State gave its member-owners a stake and a voice in the brewery while creating a neighborhood gathering place centered around its beer and community. As Fair State grew, it expanded beyond the original taproom with a larger production facility in St. Paul. In September 2020, Fair State voluntarily recognized a union formed by its employees, adding another chapter to the breweryโ€™s cooperative history. The Central Avenue taproom closed in December 2025, ending more than a decade of pouring pints in Northeast Minneapolis. But Fair State didnโ€™t disappear with it. The Fair State brand continues under Ranchers Beverage Co., with its beers and other beverages still produced at the St. Paul production facility and available beyond the brewery. For this dinerlight piece, I wanted to capture the Central Avenue taproom itself. The building settles into deep blues and teals while the windows glow in yellow, orange and pink from within. Above it all, the Fair State sign remains illuminated against the brick, remembering the taproom as part of the nighttime landscape of Northeast Minneapolis. Nothing better than sleeping in a tent with crisp, cold Minnesota air. Sparking up a fire every night and grilling some meat. Hiking trails with a stairway to a firewatch. Leaves on trees turning yellow and red. Enjoying rain while staying positive and smooth. Owls hooting secrets at night above the camp sight. Passing by small towns with population as low as 250 people. 9 day vacation from my dream job. Pure joy. ๐Ÿ’˜ Had some amazing beer from @sunkenshipbrewingcompany. Hands down the best Oktoberfest I drank all season. ๐Ÿ #beer #camping #joy by @rad_ant
