People will say that you get the dog you need.
Morrison was the dog we needed, when we needed her.

She was super model stunning.
She was the dog who taught us to level up.
To be better in our roles, because she needed it.
And through that process, we became better.
We also became her partners and advocates, growing unfathomably close through the process of learning to be better for her.

We lost Morrison tragically and unexpectedly early Thursday morning of this week.
On what seemed to be a normal day, Morgan was out in the National Forest surrounding our home with the dogs.
One minute things were fine, and the next Morrison had collapsed and was gone within seconds.
Morgan stayed as long as he could before physically sprinting home with Hank to get me.
Along with our neighbor, we ran back in so that I could stay with her while they drove a 4wheeler back in to carry her out.
She weighed 150#. The effort was significant.
It was swift and surreal. We remain in complete disbelief that she is gone. Shattered.

Morrison was Morgan’s girl.
She loved nothing more than to run off leash and free, in the woods with him by her side.
To lose her tragically and alone in the woods breaks my heart for him.
He is a better version of himself because of their friendship and trust.
I will always be grateful to her for that.

Grief is the worst.
And to quote Morgan, “we’re just going to be really really sad for a while”.
Thank you to everyone for the outpouring of love and support.
And an enormous thank you to our neighbor and friend Pete.
We are not worthy, and let’s never ever do that again.

On this day in 2001 I was knee deep in a book tour as the Executive Pastry Chef at The Trellis in Williamsburg, VA.
We had been back and forth to NYC and DC countless times that September as my boss, Marcel Desaulniers had recently released a new book.

On Sept 9th we had a launch party for the book at Windows on the World on the 106th and 107th floors of the North Tower.
On the evening of Sept 10th we celebrated in DC at The National Press Conference and drove home to Virginia very early on September 11, 2001.
I was unpacking on the back dock of the restaurant when Marcel asked me to come into the office and showed me the live footage of the Trade Center.

There are no words to describe the way your brain stops working amidst trauma.
I still have no words.
The World was changed forever that day.
We are all just walking each other home.

Never underestimate the power of a small team.
I actually thrive when underestimated.
It fuels my fire.
It prompts me to double and triple down for those who do trust and believe in me.
To my team, thank you for your belief, trust and loyalty. I got you.

I will forever and always remember suffering through a race and my coach Jason Koop appearing out of nowhere in the middle of the mountains.
The impact that had on me directly resulted in how I show up for athletes on my team.
Thank you Koop, for showing me the difference. I remain grateful for your mentorship and friendship.

I cannot be at every race, but I will always do my best to personally be present for each person at least once every season.
This weekend I was lucky enough to bop over to Leadville to watch Anna Gibson race her first ever Leadville 100.
A fever dream of a day.
Once again reminding myself to breathe.
I’m the lucky one.

🏔️ Hardrock 2026 – Behind the Finish Line

Chapter 2: Finding the World’s Best

People have asked me one question more than any other:

“How did San Juan Mountain Adventures end up supporting so many of the world’s best ultrarunners?”

The answer wasn’t luck.

It was months of searching, hundreds of messages, countless phone calls, and more than a few moments where I wondered if this crazy idea would actually work.

What started as a list of names slowly became conversations.

Conversations became friendships.

And before the race ever began, something much bigger than transportation was taking shape.

If you’ve ever wondered what happened behind the scenes before Hardrock 2026, this chapter is for you.

👋 Meet Kelly.

Brand Partnership Manager.

Translation: She’s the reason we have sponsors that don’t make us want to set our microphones on fire. Every brand you hear on the show got vetted, negotiated, and occasionally interrogated by Kelly first.

Fun food fact: Zoë first met Kelly because she was giving away mini cakes at a 100-mile race. So of course, Zoë had to befriend the woman giving away dessert at 5:30 in the morning. The rest is history.

Favorite way to move: Hiking with her dogs or riding horses. No pace, no splits, just animals who are thrilled she showed up.

A wellness trend that makes her irrationally angry: Trends. All of them. Not any single trend in particular, the entire concept of trends. People following whatever’s viral without ever asking what the research says. Welcome, Kelly. You’ve found your petty and scientifically literate tribe.

Mid-day snack: Half an almond butter and marmalade sandwich. Incredible. No notes.

The hill she’ll die on: Eating the way your hero eats is probably not the way for you. Case in point: Scott Jurek is vegan. Kelly is a Scott Jurek superfan. Therefore Kelly must be vegan, right? Wrong. Admire the athlete, question the transitive property of dietary excellence. You are not Scott Jurek. Only Scott Jurek is Scott Jurek. Eat what works for you.

Why she’s here: The conviction this team has for getting the science right. She wanted to work with people who chase the truth instead of the trend, and we’re very glad she picked us.

Thanks, Kelly! 💜 taken in Aspen, Colorado by @radboulder

I’ve always thought of myself as a race car 🏃‍♀️🏎️

If I want to keep moving, I have to keep the tank full.

On the biggest days, I’m aiming for around 5,000 calories just so I can get up and do it all again the next morning. That means at least three meals, two recovery shakes, and snacks pretty much the entire time I’m moving.

Sounds easy enough... until you’re 7 hours into a run and completely over chewing 😂

Huge thanks to Kelly for making sure I stay fuelled for whatever the Colorado throws at me 💙🤗

We got so locked into conversations at @trailcontahoe that these are basically the only videos we took. 🤷🏼‍♀️

And honestly… we wouldn’t have had it any other way.

The ideas, the people, brands showing up in thoughtful ways, and all the conversations throughout the week left us excited for where this sport is headed.

Feels like a special moment for trail running. 💙 taken in Palisades Tahoe by @radboulder

As the sport of trail running is growing at breakneck speed, so are the options for media.
Today alone I have received seven requests for my athlete roster.
Athletes racing for the win at BA/WS are there to race.
They are happy to do one or two interviews, but not six.
We intentionally booked media weeks ago in order to protect bandwidth.

Please keep in mind that athletes often have appearance requests from their brand partners.
On top of media interviews and brand requests, there are now Trail Con panels and pre race panel requests.
On top of all of this, there are a staggering amount of creatives (experienced and new to the space) reaching out to include athletes in whatever idea they have for a film.
This scenario is absolutely out of control.

I know how many hours a week I spend managing this for my team.
I cannot imagine the pro who does not have someone to say no for them.
When I decline media on behalf of an athlete in my care, the refusal is often not received well.
This needs to stop.
I don’t appreciate having to flip the tables over to be heard.
I hope that if you are reading this that you respect the word no.
Respect the word no whether it comes from an athlete, an agent or a coach.
And to be crystal clear, no response from an athlete IS a response.
No response, is a no.
