Last Photo. In summer, 2013 I made my final image using a large format camera and sheet film. It was of Mount Kailash, in western Tibet. Curiously, I chose not to use the film image in that book project, but rather a digital one I made using a friend’s camera. It was the first digital image I ever made. So, photographically speaking, and fitting enough, my circumambulation of the holy Tibetan mountain went from last to first. Many many thanks to @radcliffephoto for his companionship on that fabulous trek and the video work shown here, and for allowing me take a picture with his camera. 🙏 #mountkailash #tibet #largeformatphotography by @radcliffephoto

I learned early on that momentum is key, for me. Everything I do or don’t do is because of my ability or inability to create momentum. I’m sure that’s true for many, it’s not exactly unique. For me, if I can’t generate it and keep it I tend to be a huge turd. I have to keep moving. The downside of that, other than burnout, is simply that I don’t always know when to quit. There’s “art” in learning to stop, knowing when. It’s something I’m working on, stopping doesn’t come naturally for me, it probably has something to do with confidence. Anyway here’s a somewhat humorous look at how my process can sometimes devolve into strange experiments in “just one more thing.” Scroll through to see where some of these things started, then went off the rails into multiple exposures, insane amounts of water, and oh so typical black and white conversions. I call it the “More Cowbell Method of Creative Problem Starting.” It’s a working title, not crazy about the ending. But hey, it’s your fault for reading this dang far. @gofooji for @bullhorncreative. When the BH team and I first walked into this location we had super high expectations… then what we thought would be a perfect backdrop put up a massive creative fight. We persevered and got that wall to behave as we thought it should. That’s my favorite part of every shoot— overcoming. When Gentille walked in and put hands on the props everything just fell into place, she was absolutely flawless. Great production, end to end. Early evening HPS’s and LED’s at #AppHarvest in Morehead, KY. First frame is an in-camera double exposure. The lights are bright enough that you really need to underexpose most of the scene. From Feb 21 to Feb 22, I shot almost nothing but content for a Controlled Environment Agriculture company called AppHarvest. You are about to see A LOT of #CEA stuff from me. And tomatoes, so many tomatoes. #APPH’s flagship farm in Morehead, KY is 60 freaking acres— 2.7+ million square feet. It’s massive. It’s also home to the world’s largest hybrid array of specialized LED and HPS (high-pressure sodium) Lighting. Unbelievably cool and important stuff happening there. With three more farms set to open this year, you won’t be lacking in green house content if you follow along.
