Taking you to where it started!

VAAMÉ — The Beginning

VAAMÉ began with an idea.
An idea to look beyond labels and discover the truth behind every handcrafted textile.

When I started researching Kashmiri textiles, I realized how difficult it had become to find genuine craftsmanship.

People were calling any soft wool Pashmina.
Machine-made Kani was being sold as handwoven.
Machine embroidery was being passed off as hand Sozni.

I knew that if VAAMÉ was going to stand for authenticity, I had to go to the source.

So I travelled to Kashmir — not just to curate beautiful textiles, but to understand the craft, to meet the artisans, to witness the weaving, and to learn the stories behind every thread.

That journey changed the way I look at handcrafted textiles.

And that’s where the story of VAAMÉ truly began.

🌼 The Kani Story | VAAMÉ

Somewhere in the meadows of Kashmir, a centuries-old story comes alive in thread. 🌼

Kani is one of Kashmir’s most exquisite weaving traditions, created using tiny wooden bobbins called kanis. Each motif is painstakingly woven thread by thread, requiring extraordinary precision, patience and time.

Floral forms, paisleys and intricate patterns slowly emerge on the loom—sometimes taking months, even years, to complete.

For this VAAMÉ story, I wanted to bring this beautiful weave back to the land that inspired it.

Because some textiles are simply worn.
And some carry a piece of a place, its people and its history.
