5 August 7pm BST:
✨ Gather live + online for a reading + Q&A with the author Anjali Rao
👉🏽 Sign up link in bio

📖 About the book

“Yoga as Embodied Resistance: A Feminist Lens on Caste, Gender, and Sacred Resilience in Yoga History” by Anjali Rao - a vital and timely text for anyone who practices yoga and wants to understand the deeper social, historical and political forces shaping the practice today.

Anjali Rao brings forward essential conversations around caste, gender, colonisation and power.

She offers a lens that challenges dominant narratives and invites us into a more conscious, accountable and liberating relationship with yoga.

If you care about practicing with integrity - this book matters.

🧘🏾‍♀️About the author

Anjali Rao is a yoga educator, practitioner and our faculty member whose work deconstructs the dynamics of power in yoga with a multidisciplinary approach integrating philosophy, art and history. She offers insight into the stories that have been obscured by heteropatriarchy, orthodoxy and colonisation.

Currently pursuing a Doctorate in Philosophy and Religion and hosts “The Love of Yoga” podcast, featuring conversations with scholars and activists in liberatory spaces.

Seeking yoga teacher training that honours, centres & celebrates diversity of being, expression & manifestation? Invites non-conformity? Explores nuance, subtlety, & open-endedness?

You found your home and community with Radical Darshan.

The curriculum is rooted in honouring, reclaiming, restoring and repairing. Not appropriation, extraction or exploitation of yoga. We honour yoga and its indigenous roots of being a practice developed in India to support individual AND collective liberation.

Radical Darshan’s 300h Advanced Yoga Teacher Training is an invitation for those who feel that teaching can, and must, be more authentic, more inclusive and more accountable.

🧡 This 6 month live online programme is for yoga students, teachers, movement teachers, facilitators, studio owners, activists, educators and community space holders who are ready to deepen their pedagogy while also unlearning exclusionary, colonial and patriarchal patterns in wellness culture.

🧡 Here, advanced training is not about adding more content for the sake of power.

🧡 It’s about studying more deeply, unlearning more honestly, and returning to yoga’s roots with reverence and clarity, so your teaching can reflect both spiritual depth and social responsibility.

🧡 You’ll be taught and held by Black, Asian, and Global Majority women, trans and non-binary faculty, alongside collaborating allies who bring expertise in yoga philosophy, trauma aware practice, ritual, accessibility and anti‑oppression work.

This is for the ones who feel called to move toward community centred, compassionate accountability - where students are not consumers, but co‑holders of a shared, sacred space.

🤲🏽 Scholarships for Black, Asian, Global Majority, queer, non‑binary, and trans applicants open
📅 Live weekends Sep 2026–Mar 2027

Pause for a moment and ask yourself: How has patriarchy shaped the teachings of yoga?

We invite you to notice what arises when you sit with that question.

Does it bring up curiosity? Resistance? Recognition? Grief? Anger? Hope?

In her book "Yoga as Embodied Resistance" Anjali shares:

In a land where goddess worship is traced back to the Harappan Civilization, and where Bhakti traditions to this day are celebrated with great reverence, we might ask: where are the women, the fems, the AFAB voices in the lineages and traditions of yoga? And why is it that so often one must dig through academic tomes to find them?

As agriculture became tied to property, inheritance and the protection of wealth, gender relations were increasingly shaped by systems that centered cis men, controlled women’s bodies and secured lineage through patriarchal norms. Patriarchy is not a side note in this history - it is a structure that has deeply influenced what is remembered, what is taught and who is seen as a legitimate knower.

Patriarchy seeps through all aspects of culture, including the teachings of yoga. And when patriarchy meets caste, the exclusions deepen: access to spiritual authority, education and bodily autonomy becomes even more restricted.

This is why it matters that modern yoga practitioners remain discerning about the intergenerational norms and values that may be internalised in our practice, our teaching and our communities.

If you are already reading or listening to Anjali’s work, we invite you to share your reflections in the comments:

🔆 How has patriarchy shaped who is seen as a “legitimate” knower or teacher in yoga traditions?

🔆 In what ways do caste and patriarchy reinforce each other in shaping access to spiritual authority, education, and bodily autonomy?

🔆 What responsibilities do yoga teachers have when teaching a tradition shaped by caste violence and patriarchy?

JOIN the live book reading and Q&A with Anjali on 5 August at 7pm BST. Link in bio.

Systemic oppression means people do not begin from the same starting point. Many people from systemically marginalised backgrounds have had less access to education, fewer opportunities and fewer career pathways that support long-term financial stability.

For us, financial equity is also about redistribution: people who have had greater access to resources and opportunity can choose to contribute so that others, who have been denied those same conditions, can access the training too.

We welcome contributions to the Radical Darshan scholarship fund from anyone who has the capacity to give. Donations help us widen access to the programme and support people from systemically marginalised backgrounds to take part in a training that is rooted in collective care, justice and equity.

Contributing to the fund is one practical way to support a more equitable future for yoga education. It helps make space for more teachers, guides and space holders whose presence, lived experience and leadership are needed in the work of collective liberation.

Radical Darshan is not operating as a profit-making business. The money that comes in goes toward the real costs of running the training: teaching technology, online platforms, mailing systems, paying faculty and paying support staff, while the co-founders do not earn an income from this work.

This training was never built to maximise profit. Radical Darshan exists to support the decolonising of yoga and to teach yoga as a path of social justice, collective liberation and intersectional equity, which aligns with the programme’s broader justice-centred structure and community rooted teaching approach.

You can support the Radical Darshan scholarship fund by making a one time donation of £5, £10, £15 or £20 or make larger contributions. These contributions help us offer partial scholarships and two full scholarship places each year for Black, Brown, Global Majority, queer, trans and non-binary people.

For more information and donation links check out link in bio.

Not everyone is ready to leap straight into a full teacher training.

But many of us are ready to ask deeper questions about what yoga is, how it is being shared and what it means to teach in ways that are more ethical, inclusive and liberating.

🤎 Radical Darshan Distilled was created as a gentle but powerful beginning: A self-paced introduction to decolonised yoga teaching with 17 lessons you can move through in your own rhythm.

🤎 Through pre-recorded video teachings, curated readings, reflection prompts and downloadable practices, the course supports a deeper relationship to accessible yoga, lineage-aware practice and justice-centred facilitation.

🤎 This offering is especially for yoga students, practitioners exploring decolonised approaches, busy space holders wanting to integrate equity and accessibility into their teaching, and anyone seeking high-quality Yoga Alliance continuing education in a format that works with their schedule.

🤎 If something in your heart has been asking for a more honest, authentically rooted and liberating relationship with yoga, this may be your place to begin.

🌿You know something needs to shift
🌿You do not have to do it all at once
🌿Begin where you are
🌿Teach in ways that do less harm and hold more truth

🤎 For the ones who feel that yoga must become more honest, more inclusive, and more accountable - Distilled is a place to begin.
