I regularly think about Moiraine's quote about "A tool made for a purpose is not demeaned by being used for that purpose." About Moiraine as one of the Moirai, or all three at once, for the Emond's Field 5. About forging people for great purposes, throwing them, and herself, into the fire. About the weaves of fire Moiraine uses so often.

About the fact she is described as ice, when it's the fire of her hope, her belief that fate could be gamed to save the world, that kept the embers burning for 20 years.

I have great plans for continuing this illustration project.

I've been trying lately to get back to traditional art, especially pencil, in an attempt to combat scrolling and basically reeducate my hands into being crafty offline (outside of the utilitarian offline craftiness.

And what better subjects than the characters that are still inhabiting my imagination with the stubbornness of Hobbits in their home.

I have some illustrative WIP I am currently working on, but in the meantime enjoy these tiny no pressure sketches of my favourite heretic Aes Sedai.

In my head, sometimes stilled channelers would go white with shock, so this little Siuan post-stilling was another way for me to process. The books' depiction of the rejuvenation post-stilling didn't resonate with me, so it was a way to display how traumatic it is for Aes Sedai in a way that felt more poignant and organic.

Siuan's arc is incredibly important to me, so I'm still scrambling to find ways to make her story exist in all its strength and beauty. I have more stories to explore with her at the helm.

In continuation of another drawing showing Siuan's hair going white from shock after her stilling, I wanted to draw and reflect on women and violence in fiction, and letting brutality and age and survival mark their skin rather than enshrining their youth in death and memories.

I have a lot of feelings about narratives exacting terrible violence in life on women, and then keeping them eternally young and intact in death, often elevating them as symbols, images rather than people, thus turning them into immutable objects of meaning rather than letting them live with scars, heal and eventually grow old.

One of the reasons older women are so important is that they live bearing scars and wrinkles like a tally and a stamp of persistence on their skin.

All that to say, I appreciated greatly the show's decision to keep on screen Moiraine's chest scar in season 2 and had great hopes for Siuan getting similar visible scars after her deposal and torture.

It wasn't meant to be in this life.

So here's my turning of the Wheel where they lived on to cherish the other's body that had gone through so much.

Perhaps if the show rises from its ashes there is a chance it might come to be still.

(The Lichtenberg scars on Moiraine's back and shoulders come from @pien_art because Moiraine gets beaten up by the One Power with a notable frequency and gets back up often enough to earn cool scars.)

Quick Dreamwalker Egwene because the last episode wrecked me.

This is a woman who has lost a bit of herself and her connection to others due to trauma. She uses Tel'aran'rhiod to reach out to her loved ones, whether they are physically or emotionally cut off from her. They cannot see or hear her, so Egwene is haunting them, content in seeing them at peace again.

In turn, we see through the characters' dream that sleep is the space where we can find again those we lost, those who are far away from us, those we will lose, even those we can never be.

Sleep becomes the last refuge from grief. Unlike memories, it is a world in its own right where the people we lost persist and where we can meet them.

And that might be one of the truest, kindest depictions of grief I've seen recently.

Litte late Valentine doodle for Siuaraine since they live rent free in a little hut in my head.

Inspired by Robert Desnos' poem "I have dreamt of you so often":

I've dreamt of you so often that it is doubtless no longer time for me to wake. I sleep standing, my body exposed to all the appearances of life and love and you, who only count today for me, I could touch your forehead and your lips less easily than any other lips and forehead.
