WHO IS RADIO REVOLUTION? Who are you? Tell us about yourself and the person behind the name Radio Revolution. I’m Doogie, someone who has been spinning records in Busan. I’ve been digging and playing in clubs and underground scenes since 1999. Today, I run RRRR (Radio Revolution Reading Room) in Jeonpo, Busan, under the name Radio Revolution. There’s nothing grand behind the word “Revolution” in the name. To me, revolution simply means never stopping the act of playing records and keeping the music on air. It’s also why I’ve stayed committed to vinyl for more than 25 years. It’s slow, heavy, and expensive, but I believe that inconvenience shapes the way we approach music. Wax On & Peace In. Put the record on, and calm your mind. That’s the sentence that runs through everything I do. 02. WHEN DID MUSIC BECOME YOUR WORLD? When did music begin to have a special meaning in your life? I’ve never stopped since I first stood in front of a turntable in 1999. Back then, the way we listened to music was very different. You went to record shops, listened to records yourself, bought them, made mistakes, and went back to buy more. The whole process was part of the music. If I had to choose one particular moment, it was when music changed from something I listened to into something I played for other people. The first time I saw a stranger on the dancefloor react to a track I had chosen, I realized that this wasn’t just a hobby. This was what I wanted to do. 03. WHAT DOES A SCENE NEED? What does a “scene” mean to you, and what do you thin by @radiorevolutioner

Korean documentary maker Hugh Hong has made an intimate short film about Radio Revolution, a veteran of the underground music scene. This documentary is the first in the ‘My Grey Zone’ series, highlighting the beauty of success alongside the challenges faced in one’s journey. It explores Radio Revolution’s evolution from humble beginnings to becoming a key figure in Korea’s underground, featuring insights from other notable artists like Sang-soon Lee and Chae-Ryung Lee. The film that delves into the dual nature of a DJ’s life—the exhilarating highs and the often-overlooked personal sacrifices—made its debut at the Jecheon International Music and Film Festival earlier this month. ________________________________________________ Q. Radio Revolution이 매일 오후 2시, 라레리룸 라디오를 진행하는 이유는 무엇인가요? ________________________________________________ 요즘은 알고리즘이 내가 좋아할 만한 음악을 끊임없이 추천해 줍니다. ________________________________________________ Q. Why do you host Lare Room Radio every day at 2 PM? Since 1999, I’ve been working as a DJ, moving through different spaces where music and people come together — clubs, parties, festivals, radio, podcasts, and livestreams. Throughout that journey, one question has stayed with me: how many more ways can we find to share by @radiorevolutioner
