Between running the academy and family time at home, I don’t get out as often as I’d like. But showing up for the people who show up for you is everything. Relationships aren’t automatic. They take work, presence, and constantly letting people know they matter. It makes my heart full to celebrate big moments with my students and our wrestling coach Sergio, and his family. I’m grateful for the bond on and off the mats. Happy Birthday, Sergio! 🥋🎂 by @radjibarrettjiujitsu

It was a pleasure learning from and connecting with @coleabatejj yesterday. An outstanding seminar filled with valuable information and incredible attention to detail. What separates the very best instructors is often their emphasis on the finer details, precise movements, and subtle adjustments that make all the difference. It’s always great to build new connections within the Jiu Jitsu community. A special thank you to @zecobra_bjj for his hospitality and for welcoming my students to celebrate the grand opening of his new location. Congratulations! Wishing you continued success as you begin this exciting new chapter. I’m continually humbled and honored to share the mats with talented, like-minded people who share a genuine passion for learning and advancing the art. by @radjibarrettjiujitsu

One thing kids learn through Jiu-Jitsu, often without even realizing it, is that some of the hardest days are the ones that teach them the most.

There will be days when nothing works. Someone gets the better of them. They feel frustrated, embarrassed, behind, or simply don’t feel like coming to class.

And sometimes that turns into:

“I’m not good at this.”

“I keep losing.”

“It’s too hard.”

“I don’t want to go today.”

Or even… “I want to quit.”

But those moments are often where the deeper lessons of Jiu-Jitsu begin.

Being bad at something is part of becoming good at it.

Losing teaches you that getting beat doesn’t make you a loser. You tap, reset, learn, and try again.

Struggling teaches you that “this is hard” doesn’t always mean “I should stop.”

And showing up on the days you don’t feel like it teaches something motivation never can: commitment.

As practitioners, we eventually learn that there’s a difference between quitting because something is no longer right for you and quitting because you’ve reached the uncomfortable part of learning.

Jiu-Jitsu teaches technique, but underneath all of it, kids are also learning patience, humility, problem-solving, composure, and how to keep working when something doesn’t come easily.

Those lessons don’t always look dramatic while they’re happening.

Sometimes they just look like a kid walking back onto the mat next week.

And years from now, that may be the lesson that mattered most. #lessons #BJJ #kidsbjj #lifelessons by @radjibarrettjiujitsu

Iron sharpens iron. Every round gives us a chance to learn, push one another, and leave the mats a little better than we stepped onto them. 🥋 by @radjibarrettjiujitsu

Last night I had the honor of guest instructing at Radji Barrett Jiu-Jitsu. We covered a mount escape series with several options to transition into Single Leg X Guard based on how your opponent reacts to the shrinking mount escape.

Professor Radji has built an outstanding academy with a welcoming atmosphere and high-level instruction. If you’re in the Fords or Metuchen area and looking for a great place to train, I highly recommend checking it out! by @radjibarrettjiujitsu

I’m proud of my students who stepped out and competed today. It takes courage to test yourself, and you all represented the team with heart, composure, and respect. Wins and losses aside, this is all part of the process. There’s always something to sharpen, something to grow. We’ll take what we learned, get back to work, and keep building. Great job today 👊🏽 #radjibarrettjiujitsu #tacteambjj by @radjibarrettjiujitsu

🥊 While we spend a lot of time developing our grappling and controlling distance on the ground, the stand-up game is just as important when it comes to becoming a complete martial artist.

That’s why I’m excited to have my longtime friend Uriah Hall coming in to teach a 3-Hour Striking Seminar at the academy.

Uriah and I were training partners for about 10 years, and he’s someone I respect a lot both as a martial artist and as a person. As most of you know, he had an incredible run in the UFC, known for his explosive striking and knockout ability. It’s a great opportunity to learn directly from someone who has competed at the highest level of the sport.

One of my goals is to continue bringing in people who can help us level up our knowledge and skills, especially people I have real relationships with. Uriah is definitely one of those guys.

📋 Registration is now open.
Spots are limited and will fill quickly.
Students from Radji Barrett Jiu-Jitsu will receive priority registration, so if you want to secure your spot make sure you sign up as soon as possible.
