i’m teaching a painting class this fall (!!)

painting to slooooooow down is eight monday nights built around something i’m always trying to practice in my own studio: looking longer, playing more, and giving yourself enough time to notice what’s actually happening.

we’ll paint, experiment, spend time in the galleries, make some bad things, hopefully make some surprising things, and practice following curiosity instead of worrying so much about where we’re supposed to end up.
you do not need to already think of yourself as an artist. just come ready to look, play, and paint with me.

mondays, sept. 28–nov. 16
6–8 p.m.
oklahoma contemporary studio school

registration is open now at oklahomacontemporary.org/studioschool

come paint slowly with me :) by @rae_stone_

Slow down, look closer, and let yourself experiment.

Join Rae Stone, Oklahoma Contemporary's Manager of Tours and School Programs, for Painting to Slooooooow Down, a beginner-friendly Studio School class all about exploring painting without the pressure of perfection.

Through Painting exercises and private visits to Oklahoma Contemporary's galleries, you'll practice observing, experimenting and building confidence with the creative process.

Painting to Slooooooow Down
Mondays, Sept. 28-Nov. 16 | 6-8 p.m.

Nxt. 2025 opening this friday, 3/7 at JRB gallery at the Elms. on view 3/7-4/27. 18 paintings and drawings from rae stone be a part the exhibition.

rae stone is an emerging contemporary painter living in Oklahoma City. She earned her BFA in Studio Art from the University of Oklahoma in 2016 with an emphasis in painting. Her work has been shown in multiple exhibitions spanning from her college years until now, including the 102nd Student Show at the Fred Jones, Jr. Museum of Art and most recently in solo shows at The Chisholm Trail Arts Center in Duncan, OK and Edmond Fine Arts Institute in Edmond, OK. Rae has worked as a high school art educator on the South Side of OKC for five years while growing her abstract language in large scale mixed media paintings. Her work combines organic flowing shapes with hard lines to layer deep peaceful movement across the canvas. Rae currently works at Oklahoma Contemporary Art Center in their Learning and Engagement Department focusing on tour and school programs. by @rae_stone_
