Color stories for a painting commission. #notes #colorblock #harmonies #paintings by @raefrontino

Been taking some notes for a painting commission.
🎨 🎨 🎨
While making color stories {or studies} I’m thinking only about color and the harmony I can create with a specific feel. This one has only one limitation—no to very little yellow. I never knew how much I loved yellow until now ha hah.
I allow myself to be child-like with the composition and lean into basic shapes and gestures.

‘Winter blues’ 11”x15” watercolor on paper

Aaahhh, who else is over winter?? I’ve started naming the giant dirty piles of snow around town—They seem to have their own personalities. Swipe for Rebecca’s boot hah ha.
With that said, I also have been seeing the most lovely colors lately... Something only the snow can do with its reflection of light. The beauty of the sunsets and the weird gnarled landscape of the hills are visually stunning.

This is the first in a series of watercolor paintings titled ‘Winer blues’. Hoping we can all see the beauty in something everyday.

Perfect segway to say —Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope today you get a little more sweetness than usual. 💘 taken in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by @raefrontino

‘Multiple choice’ oil on canvas 40” x 65”

Life is a series of choices. Each day we make decisions that knit our own little mundane worlds into the larger story of what it is to be human.

A common theme in my paintings—the micro and the macro. Both leaning on the other to make sense of things…”As above, so below; as within, so without”.

Painting is a series of choices that ultimately leads to expressing a visceral story, a response to the world at large.
