Being a part of The Met Gala was not something I ever really thought I’d achieve and in an instant that changed. I keep wanting to say it was luck, but really I worked my ass off to get here and I’m just so INCREDIBLY grateful that I’ve been given the gift of people who see me 💖

It’s funny, people historically have shrunk away from that number; curved their shoulders, turned their nose up and snapped their head in disgust as if to delay the marking of age.
.
.
I couldn’t wait.
.
.
Because for me, 40 means I made it. Through every trial, tribulation and talent show in between. Because lemme tell ya, as many jazz hands that there were, there were twice as many trials. I’ve said that ages 10-35 were absolute hell for me and I mean it.
.
.
While 40 does feel like a fresh start, I would remiss to not acknowledge the parts of Me from before. She’s the one who did all the work; the one that got me here. And to her, I’m so fucking thankful. Because there were times that I wasn’t sure we were going to make it. The depths felt too deep and the future too uncertain. The hits just kept coming and coming and coming and coming…
.
.
But so did she. She got up (and sometimes she didn’t) and she figured it out. Because that’s the main thing about me- I’m always going to figure it out.
.
.
So, cheers to you, me and us. May we finally hit the sweetness of this symphony, for the bitter we leave behind. To new, to better, to us ✨ by @raenutt
