Inspired by 16th- and 17th-century repoussé silver platters, Pablo Picasso envisioned transforming his Madoura ceramic designs into silver. With the help of silversmith François Hugo and his son Pierre, Picasso brought the idea to life, beginning with his Dormeur platter.

Over the next decade, Picasso commissioned 24 silver platters for his private collection, sharing them only with close friends. A limited numbered edition followed in 1967, bringing these remarkable works to a wider audience and revealing a lesser-known dimension of Picasso’s artistic practice.
