POSTS STORIES REELS

TIFF RED CARPET: Somewhere between the lights, cameras, and that impossibly beautiful red carpet, I found myself in a trance thinking about the four years it took us to get here.

Four years of holding on to a little film, often quietly, sometimes desperately, but always with love. Four years of wondering if the world would ever get to see what we had made.

And then, suddenly, there we were.

I am happiest that, in these photographs, we could gather all of us into one frame and celebrate this moment together. To look around and see the faces of the people who dreamed this dream with me, who stayed through its uncertainty, who gave it their time, their love, their hands and their hearts.

@tiff_net , thank you for giving Aman this beautiful beginning. I will carry the warmth of these days with me for a very, very long time.

Couldn't find Aalia ma'am 's insta handle to tag her but she is my favourite among all.

There is something deeply moving about seeing a film you made with vulnerability and conviction being held with such care in words.

Thank you, @namanramachandran , for writing about @amanshortfilm and its @tiff_net selection in @variety @varietyindia . For a small, independent film centred on a trans man’s intimate and complex journey, this recognition feels especially meaningful at a time when trans lives and stories are increasingly being erased, questioned and legislated against.

Thank you for giving Aman this space, and for helping its journey travel a little further before it meets its first audience in Toronto. We are immensely grateful.

Our hearts are full. @amanshortfilm will have its World Premiere at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival.

At a time when trans lives are being erased, legislated against, silenced, and pushed further into the margins across the world, we made Aman with a simple but unwavering belief: that trans people deserve to be seen in the fullness of their humanity. Not merely through struggle, but through tenderness, desire, uncertainty, contradiction, and love.

This film was born from vulnerability and carried forward by the faith, labour, and generosity of so many people. To everyone who believed in Aman, protected it, challenged it, and helped it find its way into the world, our deepest gratitude.

For this small film to begin its journey at @tiff_net feels both overwhelming and deeply meaningful.

Toronto, we are coming with Aman.

I'm travelling to Switzerland today to attend the wonderful @kurzfilmtagewin, where @amanshortfilm is part of the International Competition.

And the November journey continues. Our film will also be screening at two more incredibly amazing festivals, @cheriescherisparis in Paris and @melbqueerfilmfest in Melbourne, both of which have selected Aman for their competition lineups. We couldn't be more overjoyed for the love and recognition.

We are incredibly grateful to the festivals and their wonderful programming teams for recognising our film and welcoming it into their lineups. It means so much to see Aman find its way to such different corners of the world, and we cannot wait to share it with the beautiful audiences of Paris and Melbourne.

Thank you for making room for our little film. We are super excited.

Some people have a way of making the journey of a film seem less lonely and @meenakshishedde has been doing that for South Asian cinema for decades. The most steadfast champion, and a truly kind soul, Meenakshi has written such a warm, generous review of @amanshortfilm

Meenakshi, it means the world to have you engage with our film with so much care and extraordinary tenderness. Thank you for showing up for independent cinema with such unwavering love, and for making filmmakers like us feel seen. Your kindness means more than you know. 💛

A story that began its journey in Toronto is now receiving one of the UK’s most prestigious short film honours. Rahul Roye’s Aman has won Best Short Film at the 70th BFI London Film Festival, marking a remarkable milestone for the film.

Delving into the often-unspoken realities of identity, masculinity and parenthood, Aman challenges familiar perceptions and makes space for conversations that cinema rarely explores with such intimacy.

Its recognition on an international platform is a testament to the power of distinctive storytelling emerging from India’s independent film landscape.

What makes a man a man? And why does society still feel the need to decide that for us?

*Aman* tells the story of a trans man who discovers he is pregnant just before his gender-affirming surgery. It's a story that makes us pause and question some of the things we've always been taught about gender, masculinity and fatherhood.

But there's more to this story.

When trans man Kabir Maan was offered the role of Aman, he wasn't sure if he should take it. After spending years questioning society's ideas about gender and identity, he had to ask himself what it meant to portray an experience so often associated with womanhood.

He took some time to think it through. And in doing so, he came to realise that pregnancy doesn't define someone's gender. Our bodies don't tell the whole story of who we are.

That's what makes *Aman* important. It doesn't try to speak for every trans man or suggest that there's only one way to be a man. It simply tells one story, and gives us a chance to think beyond the assumptions we often take for granted.

We're proud to share that *Aman*, written and directed by Rahul Roye, won the **Short Film Award at the 70th BFI London Film Festival**, announced on 18 October 2026. The film was also selected for **TIFF 2026, Short Cuts**.

At Transmen Collective, we believe every trans man's story deserves to be heard, without having to fit into anyone else's idea of who he should be.

Because being a man isn't a checklist. And no one should have to prove their identity to the world.

We'd love to know what you think. Did Aman's story make you look at gender or masculinity differently? Tell us in the comments.

KASHISH Pride Film Festival @kashishfilmfest is super proud to have facilitated the production of this amazing film - AMAN directed by RAHUL ROYE - a short film about a transman who discovers he is pregnant on the eve of his gender-affirming surgery.

The film had its World Premiere at TIFF @tiff_net (yes you heard it right!!) and received a lot of acclaim. And before the applause could even recede, the film won the Best Short Film at the @britishfilminstitute 70th BFI London Film Festival!! Wohooo....

The film was supported with a KASHISH QDrishti Film Grant (supported by Lotus Visual Productions and Renuka Shahane) in 2024 and received a script development grant and mentorship which seemed to have proved valuable.

At KASHISH, we believe in nurturing young filmmakers and supporting their journeys with mentorships, grants, and networks.

It is a great recognition for an independent short film by an upcoming filmmaker. We wish them and the entire team lots of good luck to travel the festival journey, and being seen by millions of people across the world.

As the filmmaker says, "At a time when trans lives are being politically erased, legislated against, and pushed to the margins all across the globe, this win feels particularly meaningful and important.". Wohooo again!!

What happens when your body challenges the way the world understands your identity?

Aman, written and directed by Rahul Roye, explores gender, identity and the meaning of belonging through an intimate and deeply personal story.

The short-film was selected for TIFF’s Short Cuts programme and the BFI London Film Festival’s Short Film Competition, where it won the Short Film Award.

From its world premiere at TIFF to winning Best Short Film at the 70th BFI London Film Festival, Rahul Roye’s Aman is finding its place on the international stage.

Through an intimate exploration of identity, masculinity and parenthood, the film brings underrepresented experiences into focus without offering easy answers to complex questions.

A significant recognition for independent Indian cinema, and for the importance of telling stories with authenticity, sensitivity and nuance.

The film follows a trans man whose journey takes an unexpected turn on the eve of his gender-affirming surgery, when he discovers he is pregnant, forcing a profound reckoning with identity, masculinity, and fatherhood.

The Short Film Competition jury shared: “We were deeply impressed by 𝘼𝙢𝙖𝙣’s accomplished filmmaking, tackling knotty themes through authentic and nuanced characters we felt compelled to follow. We were struck by the film’s painterly cinematography, and expansive and assured storytelling, which guided us through the world with care. 𝘼𝙢𝙖𝙣’s finely drawn narrative is made all the more engrossing by the film’s refusal to provide easy answers to the complexities it presents us with.”
