Community Picnic
Saturday, June 6th
12pm-2pm
Santa Fe Railyard Park

The Railyard Park Conservancy’s Railyard Art Project is thrilled to join with the Abstract Picnic Collective to celebrate their “Life’s a Picnic!” mural, on exhibit in Santa Fe’s Railyard park until September 20th. Bring your blankets, and a dish to share, to the park’s Performance Lawn for a family-friendly, potluck style community picnic featuring:

· Drinks · Snacks · Live Music by Shaggy Peak Social Club · Solar Printing · Soap Bubbles · Hula Hooping · Tarot

Drawing inspiration from the deeply embedded cultural ritual of the picnic, “Life’s a Picnic!” uses the act of gathering outdoors as a metaphor for life itself: preparation meeting spontaneity, hospitality blending with joy, and community taking shape through shared presence. The mural’s playful imagery and layered historical art references celebrate conviviality, imagination, and the creative energy that emerges when people come together.

This project is supported by the City of Santa Fe Arts & Culture Commission.

The Railyard Art Project is thrilled to present “Flow of Wildlife”, a large-scale mural by Santa Fe-based artist Jessi Cross. Join us for the installation/opening on Saturday, April 18th from 10am-12pm in the Railyard Park’s Children’s Play Area. The family-friendly event will feature drinks, snacks, Sand Play activities, and music and a singalong with Queen Bee Music Association.

Created with original, life-size woodcut prints of local wildlife – including the roadrunner, bobcat, Cooper’s hawk, and cutthroat trout – “Flow of Wildlife” presents a new, multi-layered mythology involving local bodies of water, flora, fauna, and landscape. It is the final of a three-phased project, “Water Mythology in the Contemporary Southwest”, in which Cross explores the complex relationships that occur with and around water in the Southwest, with a focus on New Mexico rivers, streams, and marshlands.

“My vision behind this phase is to enter the community in a public art capacity, bringing reminders of the more-than-human life that, like our bodies, carries both the water of our ecosystem and knowledge of place,” said Cross.

This project is supported by the City of Santa Fe’s Arts and Culture Department.

It’s never too early to start thinking about summer! We’re excited to present Life’s a Picnic!, a vibrant, large-scale mural currently gracing one of the Railyard Park’s community buildings. Created by Santa Fe-based art collective Abstract Picnic, the piece is meant to celebrate the playful, natural joy and communal spirit of the American picnic. Stay tuned for programming information, including a real-life community picnic in early June. Visit www.railyardpark.org for more information.

We're honored to join GallupARTS and the Las Vegas Arts Council in speaking out for freedom of expression in the Arts section of today's New York Times.

The RPC also stands with the many organizations in New Mexico and around the country who don't have the luxury of turning down federal funding, however dubious the terms.
