the new edition of rooted is officially here !!

this september, for suicide prevention month, all proceeds from rooted will once again be donated to @namigeorgia

since the first edition, i’ve been lucky enough to continue working with @namigeorgia , partner with @nacdd_56 , and continued working with the georgia department of public health. i’ve learned so much from the people and communities i’ve met through all of this, but coming back to nami for this edition felt especially important. so much of my work with them helped shape the ideas that eventually became rooted, so it only felt right to come back to where it started.

and genuinely, thank you. the first edition became an amazon new release bestseller because of everyone who bought it, shared it, recommended it, or even just reached out to tell me that something in it stuck with them. i don’t think i’ll ever get used to knowing that people actually read something i wrote and saw themselves in it.

this edition has a new cover, expanded acknowledgements, new reflections, and a few new sections, including “unlearning.”

a lot of “unlearning” is about something i’ve understood more since writing the first edition: growth is not linear. it’s uncomfortable and inconsistent. sometimes you end up back in a place you thought you had already moved past. sometimes you learn the same lesson more than once. you grow, fall back into old habits, figure something else out, and keep going. i wanted this version of rooted to be more honest about that.

i also expanded the acknowledgements because there are so many more people who have become part of this book since i first wrote it. friends, family, mentors, readers, organizations, and people i’ve met along the way have all shaped it in some way.

a lot has changed since the first edition, and this version feels a lot closer to what i wanted rooted to be. thank you to everyone who has been a part of it. i’m really excited that it’s finally here.

new month, new cause!
march is developmental disabilities awareness month. it is a reminder that inclusion is not optional, accessibility is not extra, and every person deserves the chance to live with dignity, independence, and belonging.

this month, all proceeds from rooted: because enough was never earned will be donated to the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (@nacdd_56 )nacdd supports councils across the country that advocate for people with developmental disabilities, helping create policies and communities where individuals are empowered to speak for themselves and fully participate in everyday life. their work is rooted in something simple but powerful: every voice matters.

from december through february, every dollar from rooted was donated to NAMI Georgia. that campaign meant more to me than i can put into words. watching this community come together for mental health, share the message, and support the mission reminded me why i started writing in the first place. i am so deeply grateful for every single person who bought the book, shared a post, or simply believed in what we were trying to build.
