When I meet people, sometimes they ask “well what’s your real name?” when I tell them my name is Rainbow. I don’t mind their curiosity, but I simply tell them that Rainbow is my name. If they’re nice enough and I feel open, I will tell them my government name which is Alexandria. I still love my birth name and I’m most definitely not trying to erase my past…I’m just Rainbow. I resonate with it deeply. You can’t have a rainbow without a storm first ⛈ ⁣⁣⁣⁣

I started going by Rainbow around 6 years ago, but rainbows have been a prominent symbol in my life since I can remember. The first day I moved to Miami all alone after suffering an almost fatal heartbreak in 2014, there was a giant rainbow over a bridge. My 7th birthday pool party, there was a nasty storm and I was devastated, but then it turned into the most epic double rainbow ever. The first rave I went to, my rainbow sweater was the absolute greatest comfort everrrr. And this is only scratching the surface! In the beginning when people would address me as Rainbow it gave me a lil ounce of serotonin. You can’t be mad when you say Rainbow, can you? 😂 it made me happy to hear it, and I know it made other people happy to say it. So why not go by it? I fell into the name Rainbow gradually over time.

Going to private school from kindergarten til 12th grade, I was always getting reprimanded for everything. I have deep rooted fears / animosity around authority and people telling me what to do. Being told I’d go to hell in 5th grade does not seem appropriate at all, but my childhood self did not know any better. By transforming into Rainbow, it has allowed me to be who I’ve always felt deep down, but wasn’t allowed to express. Now, with the freedom of being an adult, making my own decisions and being sovereign within myself…I’ve come full circle and given myself the permission to be the 🌈 I’ve always been. ✨Announcement time ~ I’ve changed my DJ name to Rainbow ✨

I never thought about ever making my dj name just my name, but after one of the most beautiful, awakening conversations ever I had with a dear friend…I realize that I wasn’t taking myself seriously. He told me my name is powerful enough as it is. That resonated so deeply within me that I felt my soul shift to a more aligned place.

When I first started experimenting on the decks, I never thought I would get to the place I am today. I felt like a joke, but still wanted to try it out. I’ve always dreamed of using music as a form of expression, but never thought I had the talent. And don’t get me wrong, I’m still learning and figuring out a lot about this art form. There’s a lot to it. And it sounds silly but I feel, for maybe even the first time in my life, that I am not a joke. I like jokes, but I’m not THE joke! I’m ready to finally be kind to myself. To trust myself. If I make a mistake, I won’t beat myself up as much (or at all!) anymore. Life is too damn short for that. I was stuck in a lot of old negative spirals and patterns, but I’m ready to give the love to myself that I give to others. To accept love from those who see my light. I see yours too. ✨

I feel healed. I’ve never experienced a shift from a new year before, let alone this dramatic of one. The transition of 2023 to 2024 for me, has been profound. I feel like a new being, yet I’m returning home to my authentic self.

I’m so grateful for those who have supported me along this journey and believed in me when I didn’t even believe in myself. I don’t know where I’d be without your support and mentorship. You know who you are. 🥰

Remember, there is no rainbow without a storm first! ⛈✨🌈

Ever since I can remember, art has always been the center of my life. It has been with me through every transformation, change, struggle and victory. Focusing on keeping creativity as the center of my world as I grow older hasn’t always been easy, in a world where we have to pay bills, be responsible and be an “adult”. But through relentless determination to keep art such a big priority in my life, things have fallen into place and doors have opened for me that I never thought possible. Teaching kids what intuitive art is fuels my soul, inspires me beyond my own imagination, and keeps art at the forefront in my life. I can’t put into words how thankful I am for the opportunity to do what I love and inspire kids (and adults!) to use art as an outlet in their lives. ⁣

I know with my entire being that art making is here for us to heal, express ourselves and remind us to have FUN! You don’t have to be an “artist” to make art. We are all artists. There are no rules, and it is never too late to start. Can’t draw a stick figure? Then draw something way more authentic to you, something from your heART. ❤️⁣🧡💛💚💙💜💖

I’m making it a goal to complete a piece of art every day. To get my rhythm and flow back.

I’ve been so inspired by stained glass. The way the darkness makes the colors and light feel even brighter.

INTENTION. Focus. Patience. ⁣

I had a breakthrough recently with my creative energy like never before. I feel a rebirth of slowing down, focusing one line at a time. Being present. I kept asking myself “where is this piece going?” and then silencing that thought with “ONE LINE AT A TIME.” I don’t need to know where it’s going, just focus on one line a time. One line at a time. Repeated in my head to SHUT DOWN self doubt and uncertainty of the unknown. Bringing myself back to the present over and over again. This piece had me spinning around with joy at the end, happy with the energy of the piece and feeling like I’ve unlocked a new way of creating for the first time in 25+ years. You have no idea what this means to me (or maybe you do, idk haha) ⁣

This piece feels like my lifeline, a new purpose. A new lease on life. One line at a time. Forgiveness. One thought at a time. Peace. Clarity. A kaleidoscope camera lens portal into my soul. A piece of inner knowing that NOT knowing is okay, but we push forward anyway. We have no choice but to create. This is not a soul doodle, it’s my soul portrait. ⁣
