This is Lily's story.❤️

Lily had Neonatal Epilepsy. In the beginning, Lily's family didn't know the outlook and wanted support for Lily's brother, Maxwell, who was just three at the time.

They were staying in hospital when they met our Rainbows Clinical Nurse Specialist. "It made such a difference having someone there who was just for our family".

Lily's family hoped they could go to Rainbows to prepare for a transition home. Sadly, Lily became very poorly and went into intensive care. This was devastating news for her family, and they had to come to terms that they could never take their baby home.

Lily went from hospital to Rainbows when she was five and a half weeks old for end-of-life care. She died just 24 hours later and stayed in our bereavement suite.

Our Rainbows Nurse was there at the most heartbreaking time and provided hope for her family that they didn't have to stay in hospital.

“We couldn’t see our family when Lily was in intensive care, but having the Rainbows nurse was like having family there. She was our constant throughout."

Over the summer, we held a 'Create your favourite summer memory' competition, encouraging shopping small and getting creative! 🖼️

Recently, our winner visited our Shepshed store to collect their prizes and certificate, and they even got to meet Bow Bear himself! 😍🐻

Reece was delighted to have won the competition. His inspiration came from his favourite summer memory, visiting his Auntie's farm and meeting the horses! 🥰

We LOVE the finished creation! Well done, Reece and congratulations on winning our Summer competition! 😍🌟

Wave of Light 🕯

As Baby Loss Awareness Week comes to a close, we are thinking of our families who are navigating the grief of baby loss.

Tonight, joined with others across the world, we light a candle in honour of you and in memory of your much-loved and missed babies. 🩵🩷

The wave of light offers a moment of reflection, remembrance and unity, honouring the precious babies who touched our hearts in their brief time with us.

To every parent or carer who carries this loss, our hearts are with you - you are not alone. ❤️

Today we’re celebrating Allied Health Professionals Day (AHP) 🌈

Allied Health Professionals play a vital role in hospice care. Through rehabilitation, communication, creativity, emotional support, and so much more, their skill and compassion make a lasting difference to our babies, children, young people and their families.

At Rainbows, our AHPs support with respiratory care, movement and pain management, to using music to help children express themselves, they make a real difference every day.

Today, we celebrate and thank every AHP who helps make hospice care truly holistic. 💙

Sharing knowledge across the world to improve children’s palliative care 🌏️

We were delighted to welcome Julia McAlpine, General Manager of Clinical Services at Very Special Kids in Victoria, Australia, to Rainbows recently.

During her visit, we shared knowledge, experiences and best practice in caring for babies, children and young people with serious and life-shortening conditions.

Our teams shared experiences of delivering specialist care, including Rainbows' nurse-led approach and how our services have developed to support families in hospitals, at home and in communities across the East Midlands.

As the first children’s hospice in England to achieve an Outstanding rating across all five areas of CQC inspection, we’re proud to share what we’ve learned, while continuing to learn from others too.

Julie Taylor, Executive Nurse and Director of Clinical Operations at Rainbows, said: "Although Very Special Kids is on the other side of the world, we recognised many of the same opportunities and challenges.

"Sharing our experience and learning from theirs helps us all think differently about how we can continue to develop the very best care for children and their families."🌈

This week is Baby Loss Awareness Week, a week dedicated to all those touched by pregnancy and baby loss. 💜

We hold a monthly Starlight group for Rainbows parents who are bereaved of a baby, and we meet this Thursday, 15th October, 10.30am - 12pm. 🌈

An important update from our Shepshed store 📣

Because we're so fortunate to receive so many wonderful donations, we've had to make a small change to our donation drop-off process at our Shepshed store to help us manage stock levels and to keep our staff and volunteers safe.

🛍️ Donations can now be dropped off between 10am and 2pm, with a limit of 3 bags or boxes per person.

We're incredibly grateful for every donation we receive, and we have been blown away by the generosity of the local community.

If you can't make those times, donations are also very welcome at our Loughborough shop (with parking available at the rear) or at the hospice on Lark Rise. 🌈

Often, people think hospice care only happens in a hospice building, but it's so much more than that 💛

Our specialist nurses work in local hospitals across the East Midlands, alongside NHS teams, to help support families from the very beginning of their journey, right from diagnosis.

They visit families' homes to manage pain and symptoms, and support families during the toughest times. ❤️

Our nurses provide specialist end-of-life care, giving families the choice and support to spend their child's final days wherever feels right and most comfortable for them.

Care doesn't stop after a child has died. Our teams are on hand to offer support with bereavement, grief and funeral arrangements.

At Rainbows, we're here for the whole family, providing expert around-the-clock care, wherever it is needed. 🌈

We’ve teamed up with Rainbows Children’s Hospice to create a special limited-edition label, helping to raise vital funds and awareness for @rainbowshospice

Rainbows provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care to babies, children and young people across the East Midlands every year, supporting families at their hospice, in hospitals and at home.

So we created something special. Our limited-edition Manuka Honey pot features artwork hand-coloured by children and families at Rainbows. £4 from every pot sold is donated to the charity.
