If you want to join a fun weekly LGBTQ+ ukulele jam in Glasgow then meet Rainbow Ukes. We practice at Transmission gallery on King Street in Glasgow on a Wednesday night from 6:30-8. We play gigs, we busk, and we set sail to go jam and entertain people at PRIDE festivals across Scotland and the Islands for those that like trips.
If you are keen to join the Wednesday jams but are new to the ukulele then consider our beginner's lesson block beginning at the end of October, just over a week to go, at Trongate, Glasgow. Book a ticket and start a musical journey, we would love to see you taken in Trongate by @rainbowukes

We still have a few spots left on our beginner block in October! Come along and learn some ukulele in a small, relaxed group setting.

It’s only £30 for the whole block, and you’ll experience the delight of being taught by Adam, our beginner teacher.

No experience necessary, or ukuleles, as you can use one of the ones we have available.

Tickets are on the link in bio.

🎉 WELCOME TO THE KALA FAMILY, Ukulele Saz ! 🎉

OK… this may be the worst-kept secret of the year, but we’re incredibly excited to OFFICIALLY announce and welcome Ukulele Saz to the Kala Artist family! ❤️

From the very first conversations, it was clear that we shared the same beliefs, philosophies and ethos when it comes to the importance of grassroots players, ukulele groups, teachers and the wider community.

For us, the ukulele has always been about far more than just the instrument itself. It’s about the people, the friendships, the confidence it builds and the communities that grow around it.

And it’s fair to say that Sarah can be incredibly proud of what she has built throughout her career to date.

Saz runs her own ukulele school and leads not one, but TWO thriving community groups, The Southside Strummers and Rainbow Ukes.

She works with players from 4 to 80+, helping people of all ages and abilities build confidence, make friends and, most importantly, have fun making music.

Because let’s face it… THAT’S WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT, RIGHT?

From teaching, to performing solo, with her band Katabatic Bloom, and alongside her community groups, Saz has made it her mission to inspire people to pick up an instrument and discover what they’re capable of.

And honestly? That’s what we found infectious.

A partnership like this seemed inevitable at some point. When you find someone who shares the same passion, values and belief in what the ukulele can do for people, it just makes sense.

We’re absolutely delighted to have Saz representing Kala, and we genuinely can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes her.

Go give her a follow, check out her YouTube channel and get involved with the incredible community she’s built.

We’re running a new beginner ukulele block this October in Glasgow. Led by one of our fabulous leaders and teachers, Adam!

Two Saturday mornings, 24 and 31 October, 10am til 12pm, in the Refactory Room at Candleriggs, 130 Trongate, G1 5EE. Total beginners are more than welcome, and you don’t need your own ukulele. We’ve got some you can use on the day.

And it doesn’t stop there. Once you’ve finished the block you can come along to our fabulous Wednesday jams and keep playing with a friendly bunch all year round.

Rainbow Ukes is an LGBTQIA+ friendly community group and everyone is welcome

Back in July, we had another mixed gig. This time, it was for The Burrell collections pride event.
We often play gigs together as Rainbow Ukes and Southside Strummers, but this time, it felt different. In a good way.

With an increasingly devising world, particularly on social media, it means the world when you see positive things taking place in the real life world

The ukulele, and music in general, can be a real way to demonstrate support and the Southside Strummers did that perfectly playing alongside Rainbow Ukes at the event for pride. We are so lucky to have such a warm and welcoming and inclusive people across our entire ukulele community.

One of our Southside strummers members said…
“Playing at the Burrell was overall a truly lovely experience. Both the groups merged effortlessly together.”

One of our rainbow ukes members said
“It’s so important to have good allies, especially these days with the increase in homophobia, transphobia and all the isms. The Strummers are amazing allies and we love our shared times together and have so much fun when we make music together.”

And.. there’s lots more events to come this year! Stay tuned for more Rainbow Ukes and Southside Strummers gigs coming your way!

Yesterday, 11 of us ventured to the Isle of Bute, to perform at pride 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

We had an absolute ball, marching along the seafront and performing at the Bute Yard for the main event

It was our second year at Bute Pride, and yet again it was a fantastic day. What a great crowd dancing and singing along with us, and a great turn out too

Thank you to the organisers for putting on such a brilliant day and looking after us!

And, we still have one more island left on the Pride tour 2026! Next stop, the Isle of Cumbrae for Millport pride 🌈

Maybe see you there? 😍

Come join us on Wednesdays at Transmission Gallery in the Trongate.

The first Pride was a riot. 🔥
Before the sponsors, before the stages, before the corporate floats — there was a brick, a bar, and a group of trans women, sex workers, working-class queers, gay PoC and gender non-conforming people who fought back.
We’re remembering where this began.
REMEMBER THE RIOT: Pride from Below
An afternoon of LGBTQIA+ history, music, open mic and defiant joy — built by the community, for the community. No big stages, no sponsors, no spectators. Just us.
Rainbow Ukes and @KatabaaticBloom bring the songs @transmissiongallery holds the space until 8 tonight

Take Your Mama Out ✂️🎊

This has long been a favourite of ours. Despite the strumming and singing being tricky to master together.. we practised and practised and practised and… WE GOT IT 😍

You can’t not sing this one with that falsetto too, it’s just so fun to play!
