Song association: Take Me to Church by Hozier

I got this beautiful copy from Red Flags & Roses, and because it was such a short book, I thought I’d give it a go!

And honestly… it’s not that I didn’t enjoy it. I just… found myself a little bored. 😅

I think, ultimately, the writing just wasn’t for me. I couldn’t quite connect with it, and I found myself struggling to stay invested as I read.

But that’s the thing about reading, not every book is going to be for everyone, and that’s okay! 🖤

There comes a point where your physical TBR is so ridiculously large that buying another physical book feels irresponsible…

So naturally, I moved my bad decisions to my Kindle. 😂

Because technically… Kindle books don’t take up physical shelf space.

I just finished this book, so this review might be a little raw because I am NOT over those last 50 pages.

The epilogue most definitely put my heart back in my body, but those last 50 pages ripped my heart out and shredded it whole. I sobbed so hard, and I genuinely don’t think I’ve cried like that since reading Hunt the Villain.

Rina Kent is my favourite author. She’s the author that heals me, and somehow she’s also the one who is capable of breaking my heart without fail. 😂

I loved Jude and Violet so much more than the last couple. I loved them so much more, and I’m really glad I didn’t wait too long between that book and this one because I genuinely enjoyed this one so much more.

This one just had so much more life to it for me.

Violet is a character I love so much, and I’m so glad I got to watch her grow throughout this story. She deserved her ending, and I’m so happy I got to see her have it. 🥹

I’m beyond excited for the next book because, spoiler wise, I already know the general plot and what happens… but I’m most definitely going to need a couple of days to put my soul back together first because those last 50 pages really hurt.

I tried to keep this review focused on Jude and Violet, but I need to mention Preston because he was genuinely one of my favourite things about this book. I loved his character with so much of me, and I genuinely think he’s earned such a huge place in my heart. 🥹

A little look into my current reading life 📚🤎

I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately, so I thought it would be fun to do the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 challenge and share a few of my current favourites, TBRs, recommendations and recent 5⭐️ reads.

Honestly, sometimes reading just slows down a little and that’s okay. I’ve been trying not to put pressure on myself to read when the motivation isn’t there and just let myself enjoy the hobby at my own pace. 🫶🏻

Sometimes we have a habit of turning our hobbies into a source of pressure, especially when we start involving social media, goals, numbers and other people.

I’ve found myself needing to remind myself of this a lot more this year: this is my hobby. 🖤

I read because I love books. I don’t need to read a certain number, keep up with everyone else, or turn it into something I have to achieve.

Sometimes we just need to take a step back and remember why we started in the first place. 📚🤍 by @raincloudreading

Song association: Cherry Pie by Warrant

So, it’s probably not that well known about me, but I have the biggest love for hurt/comfort. Now, I know a lot of my book girlies will probably understand the unspoken connection between my love for reading it and why this book hit me the way it did… and I most definitely do not need to map that out here.

But this book did so much for me.
I loved the characters. I loved their dynamic. And, more than anything, I loved how healing these characters felt for me.

I think this book is going to hold a very similar healing place in my heart as God of Fury, which is honestly saying A LOT because that book is one of my absolute favourites.

It’s hard to put exactly what these characters did for me into words without saying too much about my own experiences, but these four MMCs genuinely healed little parts of me that I didn’t even realise still needed healing.

And honestly? That’s one of my favourite things about reading. Sometimes a book just finds you at exactly the right time and gives you something you didn’t know you needed. 🥹

Sometimes life gets really busy and you just don’t have the time, energy, or motivation to read… and that’s okay 🖤

Sometimes you just need to appreciate the prettiest books in your collection, stare at them for a while, and let them make you feel a little better 😂📚✨

Because if I’m not reading them, I can at least admire them, right? Hahaha. 🖤

🎧 Song association: Teeth by 5SOS

So! I’ve been working my way through this series, and I enjoyed this one a lot more than A in the series!

It’s definitely not the best book I’ve ever read, but I had a good time with it and found myself enjoying the story more than I expected.

I also really enjoyed seeing a different take on this one and, especially, the incorporation of Japanese art and culture. I thought that was such an interesting approach and it definitely made this one stand out for me.

Not a new favourite, but definitely an enjoyable read!
Onto the next one, I suppose? 👀📚 by @raincloudreading
