Against a black background and curtain of thick, oily smoke stands The Librarian. They are a skinless bust, their muscles and sinew red and vital. Their flayed face stares at you with a blank expression and slightly open mouth. Their eyes express sadness, perhaps, or confusion, maybe even betrayal. What did you do to earn this expression?
Spiny bone spurs erupt from their shoulder joints. Their flesh is covered in illegible scrawl: an insane manifesto, or a series of forged signature attempts. Maybe they are just scribbles on a piece of scrap paper, leftover from trying to get a clogged pen flowing. Whatever they are, the longer you stare, the less, or more, sense they make. Fleshy strings dangle ornamentally from the figure, fresh lingune hanging to dry. A disembodied hand, also flayed and written upon, holds an open book. The book’s pages are made of skin flaps, and bear arcane sigils upon them.
That book is this book, before its translation into common language. Above The Librarian is written, “Rain Corbyn’s Body of Work.” Below them is written, “Short Body Horrors.”

I am pinching myself that I get to work with @tenebrouspress on BONIS, my third piece with them, but first longer work.

Being part of Your Body Is Not Your Body was the nipple jumper cables for my queer body horror obsession. My story they published in the first Skull and Laurel is the most “me” short story I’ve written yet.

I’m beside myself that my third standalone work will be with Alex and Matt on side.

In my query, I said, “this might be the work of mine that I understand the least, but I think it might understand me the best.” I think that’s true.

I can’t wait for you to read about a really special guy. by @raincorbyn

When you think about it, aren’t we all shitting snakes?

Is there a more American psychological condition than having something going on with our bodies that we just don’t have the time, money, or freedom from the grind to get checked out?

Bettendorf grabs you with the absurdist title, then wallops you with a terrifyingly familiar story of capitalism forcing bodies and relationships to fall apart.

Kafka by way of Sorry For Bothering You and Ballard, this is a phenomenal quick nightmare that’s as gross as it is shockingly relevant. Corbyn says check it out!

Get those queries in by midnight your time!

It’s the last day everyone can submit their work to be adapted to audio at Haruspex. For a week starting tomorrow, only BIPOC authors and stories will be considered.

The response has been far beyond what I ever expected, but don’t let that discourage you - the very last submission will be considered as carefully as the first and all those in between.

Clearly there is a huge need for audio in small press and self-pub spheres, where some really special work is to be found. My fellow audio professionals, take note! 🙌 by @raincorbyn
