If someone wants this studio to shoot photos or film for them, they'll need to use the studio's own models. Too many strange things happen there — only the people used to it can actually hold a pose through it all, and know how to behave properly around the creatures there, even if they don't like their looks or find them frightening.

They were so different that they decided to build a society of their own — a place where not just the people, but everything, was different. There, being different was the most normal thing there could be.

Outside the city, cars began appearing after midnight with their babies gone and the rest of the passengers dead in brutal crashes. Strangely, the baby seats were always untouched.

Then drivers started reporting a woman flying above the highways on a broom after sunset. She drifted from car to car, peering through the roofs, searching for something—or someone.

Whenever she found a car carrying a baby, she slowed down.

Police dismissed the stories as a highway legend. Until the first patrol sent to investigate vanished.

Their cruiser was found the next morning, crushed against the road barrier.

Then another patrol disappeared.

Then another.

Every police team that followed the story ended the same way: a wrecked vehicle, no survivors, no explanation.

After the third crash, the police stopped looking for the witch.

But she never stopped looking for the babies.

The man wanted to know only one thing: where had his wife gone after dying in childbirth — Heaven or Hell? Years passed, but he couldn't live without knowing. At last, he found an old woman the villagers called a witch, said to know the roads between the living and the dead.
"I can take you to her," she said. "But the price is your daughter's heart." He told himself he only wanted one last answer. He agreed. The old woman burned a braid of the girl's hair, and at that instant, her heart stopped.
The man opened his eyes in Hell. No soul could tell him where his wife had gone — only that she had moved somewhere else, somewhere the boundary between sin and salvation was shifting. "Perhaps she'll be reborn," a faceless creature told him. "Perhaps, one day, she'll return to you as your granddaughter."
Furious, he ran through a labyrinth until he reached a hall carved entirely with his own image — thousands of versions of himself, torn apart, rebuilt, endless. Beneath his feet ran a river of blood. His daughter's blood. From every wall, thousands of whispers rose, all speaking her name.
He finally understood: he hadn't been punished by being sent to Hell. Hell was this — spending eternity living inside the blood of the daughter he had sold for an answer.

Some things are never owned. They simply pass from one place to another, changing shape each time they are seen.

A room can spend years trying to contain them. A body can carry them for only a moment. A crowd may lift them high enough to mistake their weight for devotion.

There are rituals that survive even after everyone forgets why they began. Hands continue their work. Doors remain closed. Nets are cast. Forests stay patient. The sea never interrupts.

Nothing here asks to be understood. Every image arrives already carrying a history that refuses translation.

Perhaps that is why these moments feel strangely familiar. Not because they belong to the same story, but because they all escaped from the same dream before morning had the chance to erase it.

They say this island was once built for a great many people, but the people stayed few, and the fields grew vast. Now the distance between two souls is such that if someone sets out to visit another, exhaustion arrives before he or she does; so visits slowly became something like dreams — things a person plans for but that never quite happen. No one here knows their neighbor because a neighbor is someone who lives seven colors of field away. But the people of this island have learned something no one in crowded places is ever forced to learn: how to be alone with themselves, without loneliness turning into a sentence.

They decided never to wake again. Not to escape the world, but to protest a world they no longer wanted to be awake in. Each of them swallowed a pill meant to make their sleep eternal. Before falling asleep, they chose public places: stations, squares, parks, sidewalks. They wanted their final image to remain in front of everyone’s eyes. People walked past them without stopping. As if the sleepers were invisible. Perhaps that was the real protest: the ones who pretended not to see were the ones truly asleep.

During one mission, he found a pregnant nurse in a starving battlefield. Her husband had been missing for months and had finally been found alive, wounded, and waiting in a distant house. She was close to giving birth, so the doctor took her aboard. They had water. They had almost no food. On the second night, the storm came. The Zeppelin was thrown through the darkness like a piece of paper. The doctor fought the controls until the instruments died. Then came a sound like the sky breaking. Metal screamed. The lights went out. By morning, they discovered the airship trapped between two enormous cliffs, hundreds of meters above a valley hidden by mist. The engine was damaged. The radio was dead. There was no road below, no signal above, and no way out. That morning, the nurse went into labor. After hours of pain, a boy was born. She held him for less than a minute. Then she died... By the third morning, nobody questioned the arrangement anymore. The birds arrived before sunrise, filling every empty space with the confidence of permanent residents. They never touched the bed or disturbed its occupant. An invisible agreement seemed to exist between sleep and wings.

Scientists searched for migration patterns. Photographers searched for beauty. Children invented stories about forgotten queens, impossible promises, and dreams that had accidentally become places instead of memories. None of them were entirely wrong.

Visitors whispered because silence felt expected here, as though the landscape had already chosen its own volume. Even the wind behaved with unusual restraint, carrying feathers instead of answers.

Years later, people would argue over whether the woman had found the flock or the flock had found her. The distinction mattered only to those who had never witnessed it. Everyone else understood that certain mornings do not belong to history—they belong to myth, borrowing the appearance of ordinary life just long enough to be photographed.

All the world's leading architects gathered together on a small part of the world — a flat, green island — to carry out a major collaborative project: building the strangest residential apartments imaginable. The locals welcomed the architects and their team, growing close to some, keeping their distance from others. It wasn't until the third apartment was finished that they began to notice what was actually happening. Rumors reached them of more plans to come, of strange, luxurious designs meant to draw the world's powerful and wealthy there for holidays. There was talk that within a few years, the whole place might be paved over, just so guests wouldn't get their shoes muddy. It took until roughly the fifth building for all the locals to fully grasp the impact of the architects' presence and their plans for the island's future. But it took only until the completion of one more building for the locals to drive the architects and their team out. As an act of protest, and out of respect for the nature that was being destroyed at the builders' hands, they didn't just refuse to live in those buildings — they surrendered them to the green tide of nature, to be swallowed whole.

Five years after bringing life back to a dead planet, we built a colossal rhino-shaped machine to protect it.
One night, the Guardian turned against us and placed itself between the herd and the humans.
The man who ordered its destruction was believed to have died five years earlier—the sole survivor of the catastrophe that killed his brother.
He had returned for revenge, convinced the Guardian had murdered him.
But when the bullet came, the machine did not fight back. Its screen displayed only: “I didn’t kill him. I tried to save him.”
