It’s Valentine’s Day…
and like a bad ex, the mosquitoes are suddenly back in your life.

Uninvited.
Persistent.
Buzzing in your ear at 2am like, “you up?”

Absolutely not.

This year? We’re choosing peace.
We’re choosing boundaries.
We’re choosing dish soap.

Just a few drops in standing water, even in those water-catching plants, and BOOM! The surface tension breaks, mosquitoes can’t survive, and they can’t lay eggs.

Translation:
No more toxic returns.
No more love bites.

A few drops of dish soap = 🚫🦟

I have an emotionally unstable Parlor Palm. She’s mostly thriving, but every now and then has a little crash out. Oh wait, that’s me. 😂

Just adding some movement to the soil to circulate air. I’ve seen videos that disagree with this method, but we do what we want here. ✌️😋

Time to put the plant shade back up so these babies don’t fry. 🔥

When I took it down this last time, I dropped two bungee balls used to secure the shade to the frame. It was raining, I did not bother to find them. 🫣

Life goes on, but now I need them. 😂 I remember noting one was hanging from a plant and the other was a mystery. 👀
Both bungees secured and plants are covered!

I missed the harvest window, so instead of making tea, these went to seed. 😂

This is my Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa), aka Jamaican sorrel. I got the plants because I LOVE jamaica tea and want to learn how to grow it, harvest it, and eventually make my own.

I knew there would be seeds inside, but I was excited to cut these open and see what they actually looked like.

The red calyx is the part we use for tea, and tucked inside each one is a seed capsule. My understanding is that once they start turning brown and drying, I’ve waited too long for a tea harvest.

So I missed the tea, but I got seeds and approximately 47 more questions. 😂

The goal:
🌱 Grow it
🌺 Harvest it at the right time
☀️ Dry it
🍵 Make my own jamaica tea

If you grow Roselle, teach me something. When do you harvest yours? How do you know they’re ready? And is there a better way to get these seeds out without massacring the things? 😂

I said I would post content this weekend. Let me tell you something! It is so hot out here. I’m in the process of reorganizing supplies and consolidating. This bag of organic potting soil sat in the elements a bit too long. So I’m chopping it up.

Super lucky over here. Fiddle Leaf Fig tree was laid down intentionally. I had it tied up and it was leaning when I got up this morning. No big deal. I would’ve brought it inside, but it’s heavy and like 10 feet tall (random guess). Easiest solution was to lay it down until the storm passes. Only other thing was our shelfs sinking into the wet ground. All good this way.

I’m looking forward to seeing the flourish after the rainfall!
