Nobody prepares you for the feelings that come with a redetermination of your child’s services.
You sit down to answer questions. You know your child’s diagnosis causes them to need additional help. You live that reality every single day.

But somewhere between the delays, the appointments, the laundry, the laughter, and figuring out what’s for dinner... you have pushed the full weight of it to the back burner of your mind.

Then come the questions.

Can she do this independently?

Can she do that without assistance?

And by the time you have answered “no” to 29 out of 30 questions, it feels like somebody has slapped you in the face with a reality you never forgot... but cannot afford to feel in its entirety every day.
Because in our daily life, I see Caisey. Her smile.
Her personality. Her opinions.
I recognize her progress. I celebrate things a questionnaire may never even ask about.
But sitting through that list hurts. Each “no” makes me say out loud something I usually just quietly help her with.
And there is another ache in knowing I have to explain all of it clearly so she can keep receiving the support she needs. I cannot soften the answers just because saying them breaks my heart.
I can continue to love her, help her and watch her break every barrier just like she did the others. I can be grateful for her progress and still need a minute after that appointment.

Those feelings can sit in the same heart.

So if you are a autism parent like myself, if you have ever held yourself together through a redetermination and cried afterward... I understand.

But don’t stop there! Pray & work, work & pray. & just as my baby is thriving yours can too! Keep going. You got this💪🏾💙🧩 by @raisingherdifferently

Caisey, watching you grow, learn, and become the amazing little girl you are today has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. You may experience the world differently🧩, but you continue to show me every day that being different is beautiful. 💜

I am so proud of every milestone, every accomplishment, every new word, every new skill, and every little moment that makes you uniquely YOU. Your journey may look different, but baby girl, you are THRIVING! 🥹💜
