“In The Midst Of It All” is an exhibition that explores what it means to create art while facing personal internal instability and the constant shifting of the outer world. Rather than waiting on ideal conditions or the right time, the works exhibited highlight the moment between internal conflict and experiences with external realities, emphasizing creation as an active ongoing response to both.

Made this piece a couple months back but it’s relevant to my new current body of work, where I’m exploring the connections between “black American cultural” themes and traditional “African cultural” themes.

In this piece specifically I explore the concept of Kingship. Using Obatala sometimes referred to as “King of The White Cloth” (knod to the white mink) also the deity of purity, clarity, and morality, I wanted to emphasize how we embody certain diasporic archetypes innately and subconsciously. by @rajumabey

This piece expresses my love for jazz and also a particular moments in jazz music where all the musicians reach that particular state of focus. Growing up my parents would play Coltrane and Miles a lot and I became obsessed with the music and swag of it.

(Picasso’s ) “Three Musicians” was also a point of reference, Picasso often took visual aesthetics and styles from African art and textiles to create his infamous cubism style. by @rajumabey

Been sharpening my swords and practicing my aim, my good brother @barterbarter extended his hand out and allowed me the space, time, wisdom, and inspiration to create these pieces. This just a small part of a lot more thats otw.
