Life is better in a union.

Being atop this towering skyscraper, surrounded by the reflective glass overlooking New York City’s iconic skyline, I feel awe and gratitude. As a young adult and the child of immigrant parents, this city symbolizes their dreams and sacrifices—a beacon of hope and opportunity that beckoned us to new horizons.

Growing up in a tight-knit immigrant community, I saw the resilience and determination of those who journeyed here for a better life. My parents worked tirelessly, instilling in me a strong work ethic and gratitude for the opportunities in this land of endless possibilities.

Navigating New York City’s complexities as a young immigrant was challenging. Joining a union provided solace and support. With fellow workers who shared similar backgrounds and aspirations, I found belonging and camaraderie, transcending language and cultural barriers.

Through our union’s collective strength, we advocated for fair wages, safe working conditions, and opportunities for upward mobility. This empowered me to pursue my dreams with confidence and resilience.

I’m reminded of the dreams flourishing in this city, thanks to my parents’ sacrifices and fellow union members’ solidarity. Together, we’re not just building careers; we’re creating a legacy of hope and resilience.
