Bright ideas. Sustainable change. A peek into our world of engineering, architecture and consultancy🌱🌍

POSTS STORIES REELS

The decisions we make today shape what becomes possible tomorrow.

From the materials we choose to the way we design buildings and infrastructure, today's decisions can have an impact for decades.

Making better use of existing resources, reducing environmental impacts and designing for changing needs are all part of creating more sustainable solutions.

This #SustainabilityDay, we're highlighting the importance of thinking beyond immediate needs, and considering the long-term impact of the choices we make.

Modernising a pharmaceutical facility is one challenge. Keeping production running throughout is another.

As life science manufacturers expand capacity, upgrade infrastructure and prepare for new processes, existing operations cannot simply be put on hold.

From upgrading critical utilities to adapting cleanrooms, every decision needs to account for production continuity, quality and compliance.

As Anders Hummer, Global Life Sciences & Pharma Sector Lead Director at Ramboll, explains: “At a live site, you are designing the future while the present is still running. You cannot treat operations as something that starts after handover.”

The key is understanding what needs to change now, what can be reused and what can be phased, without compromising ongoing operations.

In our latest news piece, we explore how early planning can help pharmaceutical manufacturers modernise existing facilities, manage risks and protect long-term value.

A life science facility built today needs to be ready for what comes next.

With billions being invested in life science manufacturing across the US, UK and Northern Europe, the decisions made during early planning will shape how well these facilities can adapt in the years ahead.

Changing production needs, growing energy demands, water availability and evolving regulatory requirements can all affect a facility's long-term performance.

As Anders Hummer, Global Life Sciences & Pharma Sector Lead Director at Ramboll, explains: “Future-fit does not mean building everything now. It means understanding which options are difficult to recover later, protecting those, and allowing the rest of the investment to follow the business.”

In our latest news piece, we explore how early decisions around site selection, energy, water, and facility design can help life science manufacturers reduce risks, maintain flexibility, and protect long-term value.

Lower-carbon materials can only scale if the market is ready to use them.

Steel and concrete are fundamental to the built environment, but reducing their emissions requires more than developing lower-carbon alternatives. Demand, cost, procurement, standards and policy all influence how quickly those alternatives become mainstream.

And the picture varies across markets.

In Europe, new Ramboll analysis suggests that the potential supply of low-carbon concrete could support substantially more ambitious public procurement targets than currently proposed by the EU.

In Southeast Asia, research into lower-emission steel shows a different challenge: organisations recognise the need to transition, but cost pressures, uncertainty around standards and limited operational readiness continue to constrain demand.

Different materials. Different markets. But a common challenge: creating the conditions that allow lower-carbon materials to scale.

Public procurement, clearer standards, supportive policy and stronger market signals can all play a role in closing the gap between what is technically possible and what the market adopts.

Sometimes, a few minutes can make a meaningful difference. 💙

A conversation over coffee, a short walk, or simply checking in with a colleague can create space to listen, share, and connect.

Creating a supportive workplace starts with making time for each other.

What if cities didn’t need to build from scratch to create more homes?

As housing demand grows, building new homes is only part of the answer.

Across cities around the world, existing buildings and neighbourhoods are already being used differently.

Empty or underused buildings are being converted into homes, existing housing is being retrofitted, development is being concentrated around public transport, and neighbourhoods are being revitalised rather than replaced.

These are among the ten approaches explored in Where housing meets climate, a report from Ramboll and C40 Cities.

Drawing on examples and insights from cities including Bogotá, Copenhagen, Jakarta, Vancouver and Warsaw, the report shows how cities can increase housing supply while also reducing emissions, strengthening climate resilience and improving quality of life.

The solutions already exist. The opportunity now is to apply them at the scale cities need.

Your pharmaceutical pipeline is changing. Are your facilities ready?

New therapies, evolving regulations and sustainability expectations are reshaping what pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities need to deliver.

The challenge is to meet today’s production needs while creating facilities that can adapt to what comes next, without compromising compliance, operational continuity, or efficiency.

@Ramboll’s Life Sciences and Pharma guide explores how organisations can take a more integrated approach across the facility lifecycle, from planning and design through to delivery and optimisation.

Drawing on more than 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, it brings together Ramboll’s expertise, projects, and insights to help pharma and biopharma organisations navigate evolving demands and build greater resilience into their manufacturing infrastructure.

How ready is your facility for what comes next?

That’s a wrap on Climate Week NYC 2026.🗽

Over the past week, Ramboll experts have joined conversations across New York on some of the challenges shaping the green transition, from housing and urban resilience to climate technology, data centres and climate adaptation.

But Climate Week is also about the people behind those conversations. Thank you to our partners, clients, colleagues, and everyone who shared their perspectives, challenged ideas and helped move the conversation forward.

The conversations don’t end here. We look forward to continuing them and turning ideas into action.

📷 Here are a few moments from our week in New York.

The earliest decisions can shape the entire trajectory of a development.

Where and how a site is developed can influence everything from power and infrastructure requirements to climate resilience, environmental impact, permitting, cost and delivery.

Catalyx by Ramboll brings these considerations together much earlier in the process.

Our 3D-first master planning approach combines site intelligence, computational design, power-systems planning, environmental data and climate risk insights in one coordinated digital environment. Teams can rapidly explore different options, identify constraints and opportunities, and understand the trade-offs behind key decisions before progressing into detailed design.

This can reduce a process that traditionally takes months to days, giving clients a clearer and more coordinated route from site opportunity to design.

Starting with the data centre sector, Catalyx brings together Ramboll’s multidisciplinary expertise and digital capabilities to support complex developments where speed, resilience and responsible growth all matter.

More homes and more climate-resilient cities should be part of the same conversation.

At Climate Week NYC yesterday, @Ramboll and @c40cities brought together leaders and experts to explore how cities can tackle housing shortages and climate challenges together.

The event was the launch of our joint report, “When Climate Meets Housing”, which brings together ten proven approaches from cities across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Opening the session, Ramboll CEO Christian Jensby highlighted the need to move beyond treating housing, climate, and resilience as separate priorities.

The challenge isn't simply to build more homes. It's to consider where and how we build, how we adapt existing buildings, and how we make sure people can afford to stay and benefit from the changes.

Signe Kongebro from Ramboll and Helene Chartier from C40 Cities introduced the report, setting the stage for a discussion on how cities can connect planning, investment, and climate action to deliver affordable, resilient homes.

Thank you to C40 Cities and everyone who joined us in New York to contribute to this important conversation.

Where cities build homes matters as much as how many they build.🏠

Cities around the world urgently need more affordable housing. At the same time, they need to cut emissions and prepare communities for the growing impacts of climate change.

These priorities are often treated as competing demands. However, new research from Ramboll and C40 Cities shows they don't have to be.

Launched today/yesterday at Climate Week NYC, “Where Housing Meets Climate” brings together ten proven approaches from cities across Europe, Asia and the Americas that show how housing and climate objectives can reinforce one another.

From creating more homes around existing infrastructure and public transport to reusing and retrofitting buildings and exploring new investment models, the report highlights practical approaches already being put into action.

The report has been developed through the strategic partnership between the @Ramboll Foundation and @c40cities, combining C40’s network of city leaders with Ramboll’s research, advocacy, and technical expertise to support more resilient and sustainable urban development.

Today in New York, experts and city leaders are coming together to discuss how these ideas can translate into action. – (We might have to change depending on the event)
