Meet guest artists ✨️Mishi Foltyn & Per Stian Monsås✨️
@mousevalentine
@psmonsas

Mishi Foltyn and Per Stian Monsås are a Trondheim-based artist duo who have been working collaboratively since 2016. Their joint practice explores the role art can play in everyday spaces and experiences, creating interventions that invite us to think about art in different contexts, forms and situations. Their work often uses humour and play as ways of questioning established ideas and engaging with the social and political contexts in which their work takes place.

During their time in Tynset, they have been developing a series of birdhouses that combine shelter for birds with the distinctive forms of concrete-cast gargoyle heads. Drawing on the history and symbolism of gargoyles, the works bring together folklore, human intervention and birdlife in a playful site-specific work in the landscape.

The birdhouses will become part of the landscape along Kjærlighetsstien, where they will be mounted in the trees as part of our upcoming Kunstvandring langs Kjærlighetsstien, this Saturday from 1pm, in collaboration with @nordosterdal.friluftsrad

Come and discover what happens when gargoyles take up residence among the trees!

Meet guest artist ✨️Masa Paunovic✨️
@masapaunovic.sculpture

Masa is a sculptor from Serbia whose practice explores sculptural form and its relationship with the environments it inhabits, both in nature and in urban spaces. Her works often grow out of personal observations, inner feelings or responses to a particular site, with a strong emphasis on the physical and mental process of making.

During her time in Tynset, Masa has been working with metal and locally sourced natural materials. She is constructing a sculptural form by welding a metal framework and weaving it with branches collected from the garden-waste area at the local recycling centre. (Thanks Fias!)

The result will be a site-specific sculpture shaped through an exchange between the materials and the landscape around it. Come and experience the work this Saturday from 1pm at Kunstvandring langs Kjærlighetsstien, a project and event created in collaboration with @nordosterdal.friluftsrad taken in Rambu by @rambu_tynset

Guess who’s back!!? It’s ✨️Eik Eirik Storvik Kristiansen✨️
@oaken.woodworks

Eik Eirik is a woodcarver and decorative painter based in Dovre. Trained at Hjerleid, he works with traditional carving techniques while developing his own artistic language through a close relationship with wood, landscape and storytelling.

Earlier this year, Eik Eirik joined us for our Wood as Material - Forest as Practice residency, where he created an intricately carved forest character using locally sourced wood. We were very happy to welcome him back for our Land Art residency, where he is continuing to explore how narrative and storytelling can take shape through wood and the landscape.

For this residency, Eik Eirik has been carving a series of large-scale wooden egg shells, inspired in part by the rich birdlife found along Kjærlighetsstien. Working with locally sourced wood and traditional carving techniques, the sculptures bring together his interest in craft, nature and the stories we attach to the landscapes around us.

Come and encounter Eik Eirik’s work at Kunstvandring langs Kjærlighetsstien this Saturday from 1pm, a project and event created in collaboration with Nord-Østerdal Friluftsråd. (See event page on Facebook for more info 😃) taken in Rambu by @rambu_tynset

September has been action-packed and we have several posts to catch up on 🙃 But before that, here is a sneak peek of some of the sculptures that are currently in the works at Rambu 🤩

These wonderful artworks will be taking up residency along Kjærlighetsstien towards the end of this coming week. On Saturday at 13.00 you can join us for a new "Kunstvandring" event in collaboration with @nordosterdal.friluftsrad

Maps will be available at the entrance of the trail so that you can explore and discover the sculptures at your own pace. Join us afterwards, halfway along the trail, to make "pinnebrød" on the fire and have a chat with the artists. 😃

There are many ways to make art, and I’m beginning to understand that sometimes one of them is simply being given the time and space to listen.
I’m deeply grateful to have been here, at @rambu_tynset Tynset AiR — for the possibility to slow down, to observe, to make, to think, and to let things take shape without knowing yet what they will become.
This residency has also arrived at a very particular time in my life, during a period of grief and profound change. So perhaps what I’ve been creating here is not only what can be seen, but also the space around it — the time to be, to feel, to look again, and to find my way back to making.
I’m leaving with some images, some beginnings, many questions, and a renewed sense of how important it is for artists to have places where they can simply be artists.
Thank you, Tynset AiR, for making this space possible, and to everyone I met here who shared their work, thoughts, generosity and presence.
I’m reminded of something a friend wrote recently: that we are all intertwined, and that when someone allows their own light to shine, it doesn’t diminish ours — it gives ours more room to shine too.
I think there is something very beautiful in that.
Thank you for letting me be part of this light for a while by @rambu_tynset

Meet ✨️Marie E. Preston✨️
@mariewpreston

This is an extra fun introduction as Marie is not a guest artist but a new permanent fixture at Rambu! 🙌

Having previously spent a couple of years living in Folldal, Marie was intrigued to learn more about Tynset when we met following a presentation we gave about Rambu and Tynset AiR at the Academy of Fine Art in Trondheim. Marie was a masters student there at the time and ended up taking part in Woolly Matters, our pilot residency project. A seed was sown and before she had even graduated, Marie had made the move to Tynset. She can now be found beavering away in her cosy corner of Rambu every afternoon😊

Marie is both a visual artist and outdoor enthusiast. Her practice marries science, sustainability, and stewardship. She shows Earth's natural diversity, and presents humans as one small part of interconnected life. She combines comics, watercolour, and ink in a style she calls simple complexity.

Marie held a workshop in March at Rambu/along Kjærlighetsstien in connection with her project "Life as a Tree". Tomorrow is a new opportunity to be part of this ongoing project during our pop-up exhibition along Kjærlighetsstien. We meet at 12.30 at Bortistu and walk to Kjærlighetsstien from there. There will be a pop-up café back at Bortistu afterwards. Welcome! taken in Rambu by @rambu_tynset

Meet guest artist ✨️Heejeong Jeong✨️
@navimask

Heejeong is an artist from South Korea whose practice explores landscape through photography, video and writing. For her, landscape is not something to simply look at, but something to move through and experience over time, a place where memory, sensation and everyday life meet.

Since arriving, Heejeong has been taking a daily walk along the same route, observing how the landscape changes from day to day and discovering the many ways in which this open, quiet environment differs from the landscapes she knows from Korea. These encounters have become a way of looking not only at Tynset, but also back towards home, offering new perspectives on the spaces, boundaries and rhythms of Korean society.

Alongside photography and video, Heejeong has been writing throughout her residency, developing a series of short texts in response to her experiences here. Seven of these texts will become part of the landscape themselves, handwritten and placed along Kjærlighetsstien.

Her photographic and video work will also be presented at Bortistu during the pop-up exhibition, with some of the work available to experience during our open workshop at Rambu on Friday.

Come and experience Heejeong’s work as it moves between image, text, walking and landscape!

Meet guest artist ✨️Kateryna Bondarenko✨️
@uinia_z_hory

Kateryna is a Ukrainian artist working across land art, site-specific installation and performance. Her practice explores the relationship between people and the landscapes we inhabit, often working with natural materials and responding directly to the places where her work takes shape.

During her time here, Kateryna has been exploring the landscape through a range of materials, gestures and processes, allowing the site itself to guide the direction of her work.

For Kateryna, land art is a way of creating connections between the local and the universal; a space to explore things that can be difficult to express through words alone. Her work often carries a sense of attentiveness, empathy and respect for the landscape.

This Sunday, Kateryna will bring some of these explorations into the landscape as part of our pop-up exhibition along Kjærlighetsstien, including a site-specific performance by Glomma.

Come along and experience this unique encounter for yourself! We will meet at Bortistu at 12.30 and start the walk along Kjærlighetsstien together from there. (It will also be possible to meet Kateryna and her see what she has been working on at our Åpent Verksted event at Rambu on Friday from 4pm) taken in Rambu by @rambu_tynset

Meet guest artist ✨️Noga Gliksman✨️
@nogagliksman

Noga is a ceramic artist from Israel whose practice is rooted in touch, intuition and the relationship between body and material. With a background in ceramics, Shiatsu and dance, she approaches making as a physical and sensory process, allowing movement, materials and place to shape the work.

For her residency at Tynset AiR, Noga came to explore the local landscape through its raw materials, particularly by foraging for clay and minerals. Along the way, the landscape has offered unexpected directions. Her experiments have included searching for local clay, making bone ash for glaze, transferring photographs onto wood, and creating a large-scale drawing through repeated movements of her own body.

Rather than working towards a fixed outcome, Noga has followed what the place and the materials have made possible, exploring transformation, movement and the traces we leave behind.

This Friday, you can meet Noga and get a closer look at her process during our Åpent verksted at Rambu (from 4pm), where she will be continuing her experiments with movement and drawing. She will also be inviting visitors to become part of the drawing themselves.

And this Sunday, some of Noga’s work will form part of our pop-up outdoor exhibition along Kjærlighetsstien, which begins at 12.30.

It has already been over a week since we welcomed a new group of artist friends to Tynset 💚

Since we’re focusing on landscape and land art in this residency, we took a trip to the top of Fåsten last week to experience Tynset from a different perspective than the centre of town. And I think it’s safe to say it was a pretty magical experience for everyone. ✨

For the newcomers especially, it was a feast for the senses: the sweet smell of the forest, the taste of ripe mountain blueberries, the feel of moss beneath their feet, and the beautiful view from the top.

For those of us who have done this walk many times, it was wonderful to hear their gasps of excitement and amazement, answer their questions, and simply witness the happiness this walk was bringing our guests. Seeing a familiar place through fresh eyes can be quite magical in itself!

We wish more people could experience these first encounters that visiting artists have with Tynset and its surroundings. They bring such interesting new perspectives and give us an even greater appreciation for the nature and places we have right on our doorstep. Luckily, we’re already planning two public events where more people can meet our lovely artists and experience their interpretations of the local landscape:

- Open House at Rambu - Friday 28th
(Before the Jazzfestival), come and meet the artists and find out more about their work.

- Pop-up exhibition along Kjærlighetsstien - Sunday 30th
Come and discover how the artists have responded to the landscape around us.

So put these dates in your diary now, and follow along here for more details coming soon! 🌿
