“The third annual Nexus: SF/Bay Area Black Art Week brought together artists, galleries and institutions throughout the Bay Area for its largest edition yet. Organized by the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD), the initiative has grown considerably since its 2024 debut, with more than 100 participating artists and over 200 exhibitions and programs this year. Under the leadership of executive director and CEO Monetta White, Nexus has become an important platform for Black artists to exhibit their work while introducing audiences to the region’s artistic history. This year’s programming emphasized the relationship between Northern and Southern California, creating opportunities for artists working in the Bay Area and Los Angeles to engage with one another. Exhibitions such as A Call Home: Bay to LA examined the longstanding connections between the two regions, while the broader initiative encouraged visitors to explore spaces beyond San Francisco’s established institutions. Having attended the festivities, I came away with a greater appreciation for the people responsible for sustaining the Bay Area’s Black artistic community.“ Congratulations to the leadership, board members, staff, and volunteers for a nonstop tremendous NEXUS 26 experience!
